Chapter 11:
Hard Feelings

It was night now and Winston had fallen fast asleep. After assuring Charlie of her saftey, she took Winston back to the Cullen's home to avoid involving Charlie in the newborn business.

Hunter pulled the now clean covers up to Winston's shoulders before she escaped the guest room. Edward and Bella were in his room upstairs while the rest of the Cullen's went off to hunt. She still had yet to decide if she would stay by Winston's side tomorrow, or if she'd fight.

The newborn army most likely knew of her, since Victoria was apart of them, so she wouldn't catch them by surprise. But it'd be expected if she stayed by Bella and Winston, that's what Victoria was counting on. Or so she thought.

Before she could make it to the kitchen, she stopped in her steps, Edward's voice filling her ears. "Isabella Swan. I promise to love you, every moment forever. And would you do me the extraordinary honor of marrying me?" Hunter inhaled sharply, the question rattling her to the core. There was a beat silence, only the sound of Bella's breaths meeting her ears.

"Yes." She told him.

Hunter let out a hum, an amused smile appearing shortly after. Bella was too young, but of course, it's her decision. It was Edward that Hunter had a problem with. He was rushing into this, trying to prove something to himself, she could feel it. It didn't bother her that he was trying everything he could to suppress his feelings for her, if anything that made her happy, it was the fact that he was doing it because he had to rather than he wanted to.

Hairs stand up on her arm and she turned her head, finding Jacob standing by the front doors, waiting for her to notice him. Letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding, she hopped down the stairs and opened the glass door. "Wrong side of the treaty line Jake." She joked, closing the door behind her and joining him.

Jacob, who finally had a shirt on, smiled at her and immediately enveloped her in a hug. She welcomed his warmth, inhaling deeply and finding comfort in his scent rather than disgust. "Hey, I'm sorry about almost killing you." She told him, pulling away from the hug, much to his dismay.

His eyes fell to his shoes and he shrugged, remembering that night like it was yesterday. He wasn't afraid of her in that moment, he was more surprised that she was willing to end his life in seconds. But he held no ill will towards that situation, he knew Hunter was in a bad spot and he provoked her. "It's no big deal. I did it to myself."

"It is a big deal." She muttered, staring at his lost face, "I've been... off the rails lately and I shouldn't have taken it out on you." Jacob glanced up at the house. It always surprised him how lavish vampires could live but this kind of home was not his cup of tea. "Like I said, no big deal."

Hunter kicked at the decorative gravel beneath them awkwardly. She didn't know what to say to him. "Will you be fighting?" Jacob asked her, his eyes finally meeting her's again. She shrugged, her heart dropping at the mention. It seemed so surreal that she was going to war, a supernatural war at that. She could die, anyone she cared about could.
