Damien
"Stop, there's a darkling close," Angelica whispered as they all paused a couple of houses down from where they were going. She took a few steps forward and cocked her ear to the wind. The three of them walked, slower now, forward a little more as the school came into view. A man with short black hair appeared at the two large doors that were the building entrance. "That man used a movement skill," Angelica spoke again as they watched the man run inside.
"That must be her father's scout," Damien spoke, feeling his hope fly up to his throat as he couldn't help but smile.
Damien started to walk forward, but Rebecca grabbed his arm, making him stop. He looked at her quickly before he followed her eyes. A teenage girl with brown skin and frizzy black hair darted from the entrance. Damien's eyes locked onto her for several heartbeats as a darkling came over the roof of the building and started bounding after her. The girl didn't pause to look behind her as she ran around the corner, the darkling clawing the ground as it went. Damien watched for a long moment before he just started laughing. The girls looked at him with a confused look on their faces.
"How is that funny!? That girl is going to die!" Rebecca demanded, sounding upset. Damien looked at her, the smile that was plastered on his face wider than ever.
"I thought that this was going to be hard," Damien laughed as he turned directions and started jogging after the girl.
"What do you mean?" Rebecca spoke as she kept pace with him with ease.
"Well, that's probably her," Damien spoke as he shook his head,
"How can you tell? She looks nothing like the picture of her mother we saw." Angelica asked, looking shocked. Damien could only shake his head at that; his lips still tilted upwards. The girl up ahead of them turned and ran down an alleyway.
"That's is true...Oliva said that the queen used magic on her to hide her. Call the other's back. That's her, I know it." Damien turned and started down an alleyway as he followed the darkling.
As they rounded the house at the mouth of the alley, Damien felt his stomach drop as he saw the darkling take one large sweep at her. In one swift movement, the man that they had seen at the school appeared behind her, wrapping his arms around her middle before he landed on the ground softly. Damien watched the man as he yelled at the girl, and she shook her head, yelling right back.
"Go!" Damien yelled at Angelica and Rebecca, who darted forward with more speed than he had and jumped next to the man. After another moment, the boys appeared in front of the darkling as well, their blades drawn. The darkling, however, didn't notice them as it focused on the girl. Damien pushed his legs to run faster to keep up with his scouts. He skidded to a halt directly in front of the darkling, and his scouts spread out behind him.
"Get her out of here!" He shouted at the man. The man looked at him for a long moment.
"Uncle John, we can't. This is our problem. We can't just leave them here." The man named John looked from Damien to the girl before he picked her up and jumped into the air. "John!" She screamed at him right as they vanished.
Everyone jumped into action the moment she was gone; Ryan and Nathan jumped towards its chest and slammed their daggers into it. Rebecca and Angelica were behind it as they attacked, their blades digging into its back. The darkling let out a loud scream as it tried to follow the girl and her scout.
"Oh no, you don't," Jake muttered as he ran under it and sliced the tendons in its legs, causing it to fall forward.
"Hit the vital points before it regenerates!" Damien spoke in a low voice as he drew his sword and jumped forward, plunging it into the darkling's chest.
