(The name of this chapter makes me think of a movie trilogy called Dragonheart or something like that. In it, there's this talking dragon that keeps saying "I AM THE LAST ONE!")
(Anyways, here's the LAST chapter.)
Suddenly, the walls crashed down as a huge Dragon slammed into it. I looked behind me as the Dragon stopped before me. With one of his paws, he swiped away Drakmir, and threw a large rock at Shadowfax, who fell over.
"Quickly!" The Dragon spoke. I climbed onto him, and took Shina with me. Shadowfax struggled to get up. "SEIZE THEM!" He shouted, pointing at us. Shadows carrying MP5s rushed towards us, shooting at the Dragon. The bullets bounced harmlessly off of the Dragon's scales as he swiped at them.
Several more Shadows came forward carrying PPSH SMGs, and following them was a Shadow with a M60 heavy machine gun. He began to unload rounds into the Dragon, still doing no damage. The Dragon swiped at some of the Shadow escort, sending them flying. Then he swiped at the rest of the escort, sending them flying out the destroyed front of the castle only to fall down into the abyss below. Then he slammed his paw down on the Shadows carrying the M60, crushing him. Black Shadow blood oozed out from under the Dragon's paw.
"We've got to get out of here!" I shouted at the Dragon. "We won't last forever!"
The Dragon nodded in agreement. He took off, flying away from the castle. Spotlights spotted us, and heavy anti-aircraft cannons began firing homing missiles at us.
"Hold on!" The Dragon rumbled. He did a backflip as the two homing missiles followed him. He spun horizontally in the air, causing the missiles to do the same. As they spun, they got closer and closer together, until they hit each other and blew up. "Let's get to safety!" The Dragon said, but he was suddenly cut off as a High-Power Heat-Seaking Speed Missile (HPHSSM) came out of nowhere and hit the Dragon in the chest.
He began to fall out of the air. He angled his trajectory towards the IJL base. He crashed into the ground near the airfield, causing me and Shina to go flying off. Shina held onto my waist as we rolled across the grass. I quickly got up and ran to the Dragon. The missile hit him hard in the chest, and it must have pierced near his heart.
"I have so many questions..." I said to the Dragon. "Who are you?"
The Dragon held out his paw, and opened it, revealing his egg, which was glowing brightly blue. "Take this..." He choked.
"It is the last of my kind."
I took the egg and held it in my arms. "Take care of it... Let it hatch..." the color in his eyes began to fade.
"It is your duty now."I watched with dread as the color in his eyes faded to gray, and his body went limp. I could hear alarms going off as security ran towards me, accompanied by Timeist and Cupa. I turned to them, and both Cupa and Timeist gasped when they saw the blue, glowing object in my hands. "The egg!" Timeist gasped. "How did you find it?" I looked back at the Dragon's body, and then at Shina, who approached me from behind.
"It's a long story..." I said, trailing off.
"But I am very damn tired."
...
In the morning, I was awakened by Christina. "Rise and shine, General." She said.
"Just call me Ranger, please." I replied. I got up, and looked at my nightstand, where I kept some things.
A simple lamp, with a blue lampshade.
A digital clock, with several sophisticated functions.
A small glass of water.
And the Dragon's egg.
It was wrapped in my blue scarf that read "Blue Christmas" on it. I unwrapped the scarf, putting it around my neck, and wrapped the egg in a small blanket. "Breakfast in bed, sir?" Christina asked.
"Please, call me Ranger," I replied, "And I'd rather eat with my friends today." Christina nodded. "Alright." She said, opening my door. I walked downstairs, put on my slippers, and exited the building.
I walked across the campus towards the mess hall. There was a construction team by the airfield, cleaning up the mess from the Dragon. I entered the mess hall and walked to the food bar, and set myself up with a tray of yogurt, blueberries, and a bagel. I walked over to the officer's table and sat down next to Cupa, who was sitting alone.
Immediately, Timeist, Scout, Andr, and Rocket moved over to sit next to me.
"That girl from last night," Cupa asked.
"Do you love her or something?"I looked at Cupa and put my hand on her shoulder. "Of course I do." I said. She hung her head, but then she heard my response.
"She's my sister."
Later on, I retired to my room. I watched the egg. Day and night, for the next few weeks, I watched the egg for hours.
Then one day, it hatched.
The eggshell cracked, and a small, scaly, clawed paw emerged, and then a lizard-like snout. The rest of the Dragon emerged, along with his tail and his wings. "You're a cute little one." I said to it, poking its nose. It sneezed out smoke and made a squeaking noise.
"What should I name you..." I said to myself. I thought for a minute, the baby Dragon playing with the eggshell. I suddenly had an Idea.
"Snowfire."
