Work dress is business shirt and tie with black dress pants and black business shoes. Boss does not care about color(s) of shirts as long as you look professional.
Today I came into work wearing a pale-blue shirt with a dark-blue tie. Air conditioning at work is horrid, and being 35C (96.8F) was exhausting, Across the road is a shopping con plex, and their air conditioning is great, so we go over there for lunch and look around while on break to enjoy the coolness and such.
I enter a retail store; their uniform is a polo shirt and in a dark navy blue with the store name on the chest. Walking around I hear some commotion going on. Which sounds like a family arguing (in this area it's a very common occurrence) so I just kept looking around where I see this old lady. (OL) Come from where the commotion was going on and looked at me.
OL: Excuse me?
ME: yes?
OL:you need to fire that employee over there.
I looked over to where she was pointing to some guy. He had a similar shirt to the uniforms to the store. Clearly there was no store name or logo of any sort on the shirt.ME:I'm sorry but...
OL:he refused to help me even though he clearly works here. Fire him now or I'll get YOU fired too.
ME: (in a louder tone) Ma'am. I cannot fire him. He clearly is not a member of the staff as that is not the store uniform.
OL looks back at him. Quickly once over before turning back to me. I think she was going to say something but before she had a chance, I quickly continued;
ME:now, if you want to complain about me to the manager go right ahead, I simply do not work here either.
The look on OL face was a mixture of embarrassment and rage. I found her at the customer service desk, possibly complaining to the unfortunate staff member behind the counter. I'm glad she finally found somebody on the third try, but hope she coiled down before talking to them. To this day I still wonder what she wanted.
