When I got out of the metro I walked to my friend Elisa's flat. I called Daniela, my best friend who, I supposed, was sleeping so she would open the door for me as we had agreed.
It was almost nine in the morning and I knew I wouldn't be able to fall asleep in less than half an hour so there was no point in trying.
Dani had gone back to bed and I stayed in the living room. I took out the food from the night before that I hadn't finished and ate it. Mmmm, it was delicious.
I brushed my teeth after that and even showered only my body with some soap that was in the bathroom. I hadn't brought any towel with me so I just waited for my skin to dry and used some paper tissue to help. I went back to the living room to dress up with the change of clothes I brought in my bag.
We had to go see the flat at ten o'clock so I knew Dani would soon get up. And she did.
We left the flat earlier than needed, so we went to the supermarket on the way to buy something for breakfast.
Dani bought some biscuits and, since I had already eaten, I bought a honeyed tea to drink.
We walked without rush to the address of the flat we wanted to visit.
At nine fifty-five we were already in front of the door. We waited for a minute and rang the bell.
A boy our age, maybe one or two years older, greeted us. He was really nice.
'He's so cute!' I thought.
He was the one renting two rooms in his flat. We would be living with him if he ended up choosing us.
He showed us the flat and the terrace on top of it. The apartment was beautiful and the views were quite nice too. Dani and I were excited, we liked that flat.
The cute guy told us he would be in contact. His smile was the cutest thing ever.
Dani and I left the apartment with butterflies in the stomach. We waited until we turned the corner to start talking about the flat and how nice the boy was. We laughed and hoped. We were happy.
On the way back it started to rain. First it was just a few drops, but they became huge drops and we ended up getting wet.
Laughing we ran to a bus stop for shelter. We weren't far but we waited until the rain wasn't as strong.
When we got to our friend's flat we went to the bed. We were both tired because Dani said she went to sleep very late and I hadn't slept at all but we were too excited at that moment to fall asleep.
We talked.
I told her about the night. From when she had left until the morning. We laughed when I told her about Clark's friends and about the third guy that didn't want to get up.
She asked if we had used a condom.
I lied then.
I told her 'yes, we did'.
Shit.
I knew I had screwed up.
My chest felt tight.
But I pushed it away again.
I asked about her relationships and she told me about her hook ups too.
Dani had a boyfriend and had been together for some months then. She told me how they met, which I already knew, and also what they did the night they met, which I had no idea.
She met him in the same discotheque I had met Clark. First, her boyfriend's friend was interested in her but Dani wasn't in him. She was with other friends so her boyfriend's friend started talking with them, leaving Dani and her boyfriend alone. They talked and ended up leaving the discotheque. They went to his apartment. And they did it. She had asked if she could stay until the morning and he said yes. They slept and in the morning he asked Dani her phone number before she left.
Funny how the ONE Night Stands don't work. And it's because of the guy. I always had thought guys were the ones who didn't want to see the girl again. That's what they tell you in the novels. And I had read a lot of them.
We stayed on the bed for two hours more or less, but without sleeping one second. We were hungry so we went back to the supermarket and bought already cooked pasta. We just had to heat it in a microwave, something that it wasn't in our friend's flat.
We decided to ask a neighbour if we could use their microwave so we rang the bell of the door in front of the one next to were we stayed. Better not ask the neighbour next door in case he didn't like us, we said laughing.
A man in his sixties opened his door. We explained to him what we needed and he let us in. He was a really nice person. And he had a cat! Even better.
We talked about the macaronis we wanted to heat up and about how to do it. He even let us put them in some more time when Dani and the man thought the pasta wasn't heated enough.
He asked if we were new in the building and we told him that we rented our friend's flat.
A lie, but we didn't know what to say to him and hoped he would forget about us when our friend arrived.
We thanked the man and went to our friend's flat smiling.
We commented how nice he was and that he was alone. We had seen a photo of a couple and thought that maybe his wife died. We felt sad for him, he didn't deserve pain.
With two forks we ate the macaronis directly from the plastic recipient they were in. Maybe it was because we were hungry but they tasted really good, at least to me.
We went home in the afternoon.
