Chapter 3

I squinted to see what time it was. My phone read 4 pm and I almost had a mini panic attack. You know the feeling of disorientation after you've slept for way too long? That's what I was feeling right now before I sat straight up. I realized I had wasted my whole day doing nothing. Eh, well waking up now wouldn't make sense. I was sure I could get through the night and wake up tomorrow morning- hibernation was something I hadn't tried but I was open to anything that involved sleeping. But when my stomach grumbled I reluctantly got out of bed and made my way downstairs. My parents were at work and Devan would be home in a short while from school so I decided to enjoy the last few minutes of peace and quiet.

Settling for some mac and cheese, I popped it in the microwave oven and watched the delicious goodness turn round and round till it sounded its classic 'ding'. Bless microwaveable foods. I sat down in front of the TV, carelessly flipping through some channels. With Modern Family on, I spent the next 2 hours watching reruns. That show is honestly the funniest thing ever. At one point I was laughing so hard I almost missed the persistent ringing of the door bell. Slightly startled, I made my way over to the door and opened it to reveal Devan...and a girl.

"Hey! Didn't know you were bringing a friend..." I asked in a suggestive tone. I moved aside to let them in and locked the door behind them.

"Collins. I would really appreciate if you minded your own business once in a while," replied Devan, curtly.

"I'm your brother. It's my job to know what you're up to. And what are you waiting for? Aren't you going to introduce me to her?"

She chimed in before he could make some sort of snide comment, "I'm Laura, Devan's partner for our biology research project."

"Ahh nice, and I'm Collins, the cooler brother— "

"Hahaha! Not to mention your magic tricks are on fire! I literally watched every single show of America's Got Talent you were on...that sounded way less creepier in my head," She spoke excitedly before turning a bright shade of pink.

"Aww thank you! You are literally the sweetest," I replied before turning around to face an annoyed Devan.

"Are you done? Laura and I have a project to work on, remember?" said Devan.

"Aren't you getting a tad jealous. Alright I'll leave you two now," I smirked and watched Laura join in while Devan looked away in embarrassment.

As Devan led Laura upstairs to his room, I knew this was perfect opportunity to yell, "REMEMBER, LESS SMOOCHING AND MORE WORKING!"

"OH MY GOD, COLLINS," Devan shot back as he sped up the stairs. I almost doubled over at the sight of two teens flushed red in embarrassment. I think that was enough embarrassment for a day.

Though it was 6:30, the bright sunshine outside said otherwise. After being a lazy couch potato for the whole day, I decided I was in need for a run. Peeking in Devan's room, I couldn't help but smile at his pathetic yet amusing ways of flirting with her.

"Hey, I'm just going to pop out for a run. If you guys need anything, make sure to call me, okay?"

"Okay mom. See you in a long while." Devan replied, rather enthusiastically.

"We'll see about that," I said before whispering, "Don't do anything dumb."

"You can trust me," He smiled back.

And I really did trust him. We were raised with good morals and what can I say, I was a great role model myself so I knew Devan wouldn't do anything stupid, especially when there was a girl to impress. Quickly changing into a muscle tee and a pair of basketball shorts, I grabbed my headphones and began my jog. Jogs were literally the best to feel fresh and I could really have some time to myself, while keeping in shape at the same time. I was really looking forward to the next couple months of just living at home and taking a break but I knew I needed something to keep me busy. After all, sitting at home for eight months with nothing to do did seem a little depressing to me. Some my childhood friends lived here, but they were also busy with work and school. And though I had a youtube channel, filming and editing 24/7 would make me go insane. So I decided to head over to the cafe around the block and see if they were interested in having me perform.

As I stepped in, I was glad to see it quite busy. I made my way past the tables to the cashier. Out of nowhere, I felt a sharp kick on my toe as a girl tripped over my foot. As she let out a muffled shriek, I held out my arms and quickly caught her. She looked up and I met her hazel eyes. Only then did I realize how close we were.

I know. It's literally been way too long since I last updated. School and vacations have left me almost no time to sit down and write anything but I know that is probably the lamest excuse for disappearing for almost 2 years?! In the beginning, I thought I would just write as the story went along but I realized it is way harder to develop a plot while being constantly faced with writer's block. I guess the long break has allowed me to really map out the direction of the story and write it efficiently. And just as a side note, since it has been two years, Collins is now 19 years old and Devan is 17 years old.

I really am sorry but I will try my best to make up for it by posting atleast once in two weeks (it may also seem like a long while but its better than once in two years...XD) Thank you to those who have still stuck around <3 And as always don't forget to vote, comment and follow!
