A 16 year old boy named Vesuvius is playing with his friends Newt and Layla on top of the mountain that surrounds his village. They were playing tag.
"NO FAIR VESUVIUS! You were trying to trick me!" Layla yelled while running. Newt started laughing at them as they continue up the mountain. They kept running higher and higher until they reached the top.
Vesuvius was the first one to get to the top. Vesuvius is a handsome boy who is muscular in built. He has dark brown wavy hair that covers his ears. He is the son of the chief of their village. The Great Axel of Fire, in which the villagers call him, his father is a war hero. Though his father does not like his nickname, he often tells Vesuvius that it reminds him of his late mother who died in the war.
Vesuvius was the first one to reach to the summit. He sat down trying to catch his breath. While doing so he looked over the village. He's ran to the top of the mountain thousands of times with and without his friends. For some reason this time felt different. It looked different.
"Wow, look at that view." Vesuvius whispered to himself. He soon heard his friends heavy breathing and groaning as they reached the top behind him. Newt is a tall skinny boy with shaggy blonde hair, he usually doesn't like to run but today was different. It was Vesuvius's 16th birthday! When Newt reached the top he dropped to his knees. Vesuvius looked at him with amusement, Newt wiped his sweaty face with his lime green shirt. Layla wasn't far behind. She has always tried to be one of the guys. She has never fit in with the other girls in the village. She always likes ruff housing and competing in races and competitions. Layla has red shoulder length hair that is always pulled back into a messy low ponytail. "You're lucky today is your birthday V!" Layla said breathless as she flopped face first into the grass." "No joke! I almost had him this time!" Newt replied. Vesuvius stood up and flexed his muscles, "You wish you were as strong as me!" As Vesuvius started teasing his friends he suddenly dropped to his knees and was overcome with a horrific headache. Newt and Layla rushed to his side, "Dude, are you okay?" Newt yelled. He felt like he was burning from the inside out, then everything went black.
He heard a booming voice like nothing he has ever heard before. When he woke up, all he could see was darkness. Then he heard a voice.
"VESUVIUS!"
"Who's there?" Vesuvius said terrified.
"COME FOLLOW THE LIGHT." said the mysterious yet gentle voice.
All of a sudden a flame appeared in front of him and it started to move away from him and Vesuvius followed after it. He didn't know how long or where he was walking to, all he knew was to follow the light. Vesuvius finally entered a room with a blinding light causing him to shield his eyes from it. When his eyes finally adjusted to the light, he saw a massive red dragon. She had golden claws, horns, and ocean blue eyes full of wisdom and experience that rivaled his father's, the chief.
"Who are you?" said a curious Vesuvius.
"I am Seraphina and you are my son. My end is coming and I need someone who will take my place as the guardian of fire, and that very person is you Vesuvius.
"My mother?" Vesuvius whispered. "My father said she died in the war! How can this be?" The great red dragon then transformed within her own flames into a beautiful woman with long wavy brown hair. She looked just like Vesuvius except Vesuvius has his father's brown eyes not her bright blue once. She touched his cheek, "I'm sorry that we had to lie to you. Please, remember that it was for your own protection." Vesuvius started to wonder, "Protect me, from who?" "We must not worry about that now, just remember this name." Seraphina paused. "Diablos." She then smiled gently and rapped her arms around her son. She whispered, "I wish I could stay my sweet son, but this is goodbye. I will be transferring the last of my elemental force to you."
"What are you talking about? What's elemental force?" Vesuvius weeped.
"All you need to do is believe in yourself and in the ones you love." she said gently. Seraphina leaned down and put her hand on Vesuvius's heart. Vesuvius felt a rush of hot energy go through him. He looked into his mother's beautiful eyes as she started disappearing into her own flames. "Will I ever see you again?" Vesuvius yelled. She whispered back to her son, "Save the world Vesuvius."
Everything was going black again, but before the darkness took over his sight again, he heard his mother.
"I beg you Vesuvius, remember his name! Diablos, do not trust him! Find the others!"
