Zero slept forever, (at least that's what it felt like to Luffy), he finally woke up with a yawn and looked around, wondering where he was. "Right..." The fire had gone out, and Luffy was gone. "Fantastic." He got up to walk out of the cave and was greeted by a huge....something! Blocking the cave. He heard Luffy on the other side giggling, and suddenly Luffy chomped his way through, leaving a big, Luffy shaped hole. It was...meat? Of course.
"Luffy! There you are! You had me worried." Zoro pulled him into a hug and kissed his forehead. "You okay?"
Luffy put a big grin on his face "Yep!!! I found FOOOOODDD"
"I'm glad you're okay." Zoro punched him in the head, leaving a bump "BECAUSE IM GONNA KILL YOU, YOU MORON"
Luffy laughed loudly- "I was huunnggrryyy"
"Well, you know, I HAD food for us, but something happened to that food didn't it."
Luffy giggled again and gave him another hug and a peck on the lips before turning back to his breakfast, quickly making work of the beast. "Hey! Don't eat it all!" Zoro jumped in and grabbed a piece. "What the hell is this thing anyway?", he asked in between chews. Luffy just shrugged. "I woke up from a dream, and I couldn't go back to sleep. I went for a walk and saw this thing over there" he gestured to the middle of the island. "It was huge! It definitely wanted to kill me, it came at me. But I was hungry so, you know, it didn't stand a chance. Then I came back here and got a stick from the fire, and brought it back down there to make a BIG fire to cook it. See? You can still see the smoke!"
Zoro nearly choked on his food, he jumped up and looked out to where Luffy was pointing. Sure enough, there was black smoke and some light. "Luffy...you...put out the fire right?"
"Uh, no! This meat will last me, like, not even one day! I'd need the fire again anyway!"
Zoro facepalmed and sighed in defeat. "Well, the crew should have noticed we were gone by now...I hope... and Nami is smart enough to know where we are.....I hope."
"But I don't wanna just sit here! Let's build a boat!!!" Luffy took the last bite of his meal and ran outside with Zoro in hand. "Luffy! You don't know anything about building boats!" Luffy grinned and punched down the biggest tree he could find. "Guess I'll learn! We can make one like my first boat! Remember that Zoro??"
Zoro thought back with a smile, remembering when he first met Luffy. He never told him, but it was love at first sight. His happiness radiating off of him was such a bright light in this dark world. He knew he would follow that light anywhere. Where ever they were, as long as Luffy was there, he'd be happy. "I do remember, of course I do. I looked at that boat and thought you were crazy, but I went anyway."
"That was so long ago, but it seems like yesterday. Now I actually have a crew, I love all of them, but none of them made me as happy as you did when you said you'd come with me." Luffy smiled for a moment, and then looked sad. "But I do miss everyone... but I know they'll be here soon! I know they'll find us!" Zoro looked over at the tree, then in the direction they came from. "Well, lets go!"
They worked all day on a...'boat' if you can even call it that. It was an oddly shaped slab of wood, with 4 uneven slabs slapped onto the side, held together by some strong vines. Luffy was glowing with pride at his masterpiece, "alright let's goooo!!!" Luffy grabbed the boat and sprinted to the edge of the island, putting the boat down and hopping in. "I don't think so Mr. devil fruit" Zoro grabbed Luffy by the collar and hoisted him out. "I think it would make more sense if I tried first, since it won't kill me, don't you?"
Luffy crossed his arms and pouted. "I guess." Zoro carefully got into the boat and used his arms to push himself into the water. "Luffy! It's working! It's-it's leaking. It's filling with water" the boat sunk in about ten seconds. Zoro, now soaked, walked back onto shore. "It sunk..."
"I know Zoro. Guess we'll have to try again!"
"Tomorrow. We wasted a whole day on that stupid piece of junk. Look Luffy, it's getting dark. Let's grab the leftover wood and go back to the cave."
Luffy pouted again, "fine.."
They both grabbed armfuls of wood and headed back. Good think Luffy remembered the way, who knows how long it would have taken Zoro to make it back.
Zoro started the fire back up again. "Come on Luffy, lets go to sleep." He laid next to the fire on his side and held his arm out. "But I'm not tired I want to go adventure again!"
"Luffy I know you're tired come here. I bet the crew will be here tomorrow, the sooner you go to sleep, the sooner they'll be here."
That was enough for him, he hurried over to Zoro and laid under his arm so Zoro was spooning him. Zoro wrapped his arm around his waist and kissed Luffys head. "Tomorrow they'll be here. I'm sure of it."
