Virgil POV

(The next day)

After what happened yesterday, Patton told me I had to stay at home. When he said that I had glared at him and told him that I couldn't afford to skip a day. Looking back, that was a terrible choice. It was a rainy Sunday, so no one was out and about. I couldn't leave. However, there was something peaceful about the cafe. The yellow lights combined with the sound of the rain on the roof made me feel calm. The sound of footsteps broke the silence. I turned to see who had entered to cafe. I was surprised to see Roman. But this wasn't Roman as I knew him. From the looks of it, Roman had broken. There was no other way to describe it. He walked with his head down, not held high like usual, and his hair, that he usually hated getting wet, was soaked and dripping water all down his clothes.

He made no notice that I was there, and didn't come up with a stupid nickname to call me.

I was about to approach him when I had an idea. I turned around and started making a cappuccino. When I was done, I grabbed some of the cash from in my pocket and shoved it into the till. I ripped a piece of paper off of my notepad and wrote something on it. I grabbed the coffee and the paper and started walking over to Roman. I set the coffe down on his table, and slyly slid the the piece of paper next it.

"One cappuccino, on the house." I said. Roman looked at me in surprise.

"Virgil, I can't, look, let me get some money to pay you back-" He started. I cut him off by putting my hand on his.

"It's to thank you for yesterday." He smiled.

"But, Roman, if you don't mind me asking, what happened?" I asked.

"What do you mean?"

"You're not yourself today." I said. He sighed.

"Well yesterday, my friend Remy sent me something that he found on twitter, and, well, lets just say that it's not the best news." He unlocked his phone and showed me. I looked at the screen. I read a bit and looked away. It was something about how Roman Princeton was gay and how some people didn't want him to 'change' their children and how they were threatening to sue him. I blinked back tears. This was all my fault. (its stupid ik but so am i)

"Anyway, lets just say that that stuff has left me feeling a little down in the dumps." He said.

I couldn't look at him.

"Roman I-I'm so sorry, this, this is all my fault, I shouldn't have snapped at the theatres, I-" This time he cut me off.

"Nonsense Virgil. I had to come out sooner or later. It was just destined to happen yesterday." He said simply. I smiled. I still felt guilty deep down, but Roman seemed happier. Looking at my watch I saw that it was the end of my shift. As if it was planned, when I looked up I saw Joan walking up the stairs to start their shift.

"Sorry Roman, but that's the end of my shift and I have to go."

"It's fine, I'll see you tomorrow." He replied. I nodded. I got my bags and ran down the stairs, grabbed my umbrella from the entrance and walked outside. I walked home. By the time I arrived I was completely soaked, but my smile was the widest it had ever been.
