The old cracked window was slightly open, allowing the cool breeze to air out the musty room. Dust was floating above ground weightlessly, then settling on the few pieces of furniture that were present. The faint glow from the moon was reflecting off of a dirty mirror that was hung on one of the walls of the bedroom and overhanging trees swaying in the wind were casting long shadows across the bed.

Everything was silent and motionless, except for the soft rustling of the leaves outside and an occasional whooshing of the wind hitting the side of the house.

It was the dead of the night-probably a bit past three, and darkness was piercing through the window left open. Every soul in the surrounding area was dreaming, except for the girl laying motionlessly on the bed in the tiny, dusty room.

Sharp yet barely audible breaths escaped her mouth, and hot tears streamed down her mascara stained cheeks. Her skinny body was violently shaking underneath the thin sheets covering it, and sweat was forming in cold droplets on her pale forehead.

The girl lifted her weak hand up to wipe the tear residue hardening on her face, and immediately winced in pain as the fresh bruises on her arm let themselves be known yet again.

The darkness of the tiny room seemed to amplify the stinging sharp pain and she shivered silently underneath the flimsy sheet.

The girl's heart was beating fast, rushing the cold blood through her veins faster than her weak body could handle. Another spell of anxiety was boiling up inside and she squeezed her shut, holding her breath yet again.

That girl was me. As much I wished it wasn't.
