TMR is still not mine. I tried to bribe James Dashner, but I just got a restraining order.

As the girls started to clear out, Rio turned to Harriet and asked "What do you mean, 'if I don't die first?' Where am I? Who are you guys?" Harriet grimaced, and said "That's a lotta questions for a new stick like you. Save 'em for after the tour." Rio just got even more confused and snapped "Well, I ask a lot of questions because I don't know where I am, who I am, or what is going on!" Harriet grinned again. "You gotta lot of fire, First-Timer. Get along well with Maybell, maybe." Rio just huffed and said "So what am I going to do now?" "Go on the tour, of course." Harriet replied. "Well, I cant take you myself, but Amelia can. "Hey, Amelia!" She called. "Take this First-Timer on a tour, will ya?" A girl working on the farm literally bounded over to them, and Rio assumed that she was Amelia. She had thick, dark, red-brown hair, pale skin, and a goofy, slightly crooked smile. She looked about fifteen or so. Amelia grabbed Rio's hand and shook it vigorously. "Hi! I'm Amelia." She said. "What's your name?" Rio, taken aback by Amelia, closed and opened her mouth a few times before answering "R-Rio." Amelia smiled even wider, and grabbed Rio's arm. She pulled her along until they reached the farm that Amelia had come from. They stopped in front of a tall girl with bright blond hair cut chin-length. "This tree-brain," Amelia said, "Is Kaylee, the Seer of the farmers." Kaylee, seeing Rio's visible confusion, said "You'll get the slang soon enough, stick. Oh, and the Seer is sort of like the leader of a certain job here in the Field." Rio nodded, and Amelia continued. "Kaylee, this is Rio. Rio, you know Kaylee. Okay bye!" Amelia ran off, leaving Rio with Kaylee. Kaylee laughed, and said "C'mere, Rio. We've got some work to do."

Rio spent the next two hours picking carrots. Her back was aching, and Kaylee did nothing to help except call out encouragement from time to time. Kaylee finally stood up from where she was sitting, and grabbed the huge tub of carrots that Rio had filled. "Time to wash these off, First-Timer! Come on!" Rio followed her silently. "You sure don't talk much, do you stick?" Kaylee asked as she set the carrots down next to a metal tub of water. Rio said "I guess I don't feel like it after breaking my back for two hours." Kaylee grinned and started washing off the carrots. "What do I look like?" Rio asked suddenly. She had a strange desire to know what she looked like. "Kaylee turned around and stared at her. "For one thing, stick, you're pretty short." Rio crossed her arms and said "I'm not that short! You're just... really tall!" Kaylee laughed, and continued with her description. "Pretty tan for a First-Timer, barely been out in the sun. Brown hair, your eyes are the same as your hair. Hair is cut maybe three inches past your shoulder. You're thin as a literal stick, though. Might wanna eat a bit more. You're gonna need the muscle. You look about sixteen-seventeen." Rio nodded and then kneeled down next to Kaylee to help her wash the carrots.

After about another hour of picking and washing food, Rio was starting to feel really tired. Kaylee patted her on the back and said "Go lie down in the Shack. It's over there. You can choose any hammock you want, unless someone's already in it." Kaylee grinned, and pointed to one of the biggest buildings. Rio said "Thank you.", and was surprised at how gravelly her voice sounded. She half jogged half walked to the Shack, and lay down in the first empty hammock she could find. She was asleep before she got in a comfortable position.
