Hayley Atwell as Agnes Dwyer née Jones

Renée Dwyer held her mothers hand as a heart monitor is heard in the background. A teenage girl and Renée's only child, Bella Swan, walked into the room to see her weak Grandmother. A kind woman who had always looked after Bella. Although she was old and frail, she had aged so gracefully, keeping a beautiful ethereal look on her sleeping face. She suddenly began to wake up and she turned to her daughter.

"Ren, you're here. I missed you, baby girl." Agnes's voice crawled to life as she spoke and a smile adorned her face, skin crinkling around the eyes. She turned to find that Bella was on her other side. "My darling Isabella, you look so beautiful. You will do great things with your life, I'm sure of it. And if you ever feel lonely or sad, just know that I'm always watching after you. I am so proud of who you are and who your going to be. I love you both."

"Momma, don't talk like that. You'll be out of here soon, I just know it. You'll come home, you'll be with us." Tears pooled in Renée's eyes threatening to spill when she spoke. She knew what she had said wasn't true, the cancer was in its end stage, "metastatic" and "terminal" they had said. Nurses whispering in the hallways while plastering fake Chelsea grins in front of the family. The doctor had said she would be lucky if she made it through the next few weeks. Agnes knew too that she would die soon, she could almost feel her body shutting down as she constantly reminded Renée.

A nurse entered the room smiling at Agnes. "I'm sorry Ladies but visiting hours are over. It's time to go to bed Ms. Aggie." She said while she started to get Agnes comfortable. Bella and Renée both stood with tears in their eyes and started to walk out of the room.

Renée turned around giving her mother one last smile before saying, "Goodnight Momma."

Agnes smiled at her closing her eyes saying, "Goodbye." She soon fell asleep, but never woke up again.

A funeral followed shortly after, as it had already been planned during the weeks before Agnes's death. "A thorough woman" the town would say, "an understanding mother" neighbors soothed, but not all were kind. "Strange" and "mysterious" her thoroughness and her exact timeliness with her death. How perfectly too soon her funeral date had been sent and advertised for her to then die in line with her prediction.

Many did pay visit and respect to the memorial and gravesite of this well known town member and many payed kindness and reassurance to the Dwyer family despite any unease. Most people never know what to make of a funeral. An awkward circumstance, much too uncomfortable for anyone to acknowledge death and yet wrong to avoid it. For some, a joyous celebration of life, but for most the clear uneasy reminder of one's future or lack thereof.

Nighttime set, no longer a single face stood near the grave save the moon, pale and full, as she looked down upon the site. The only evidence that anyone had been there during the funeral  was the freshly dug and relaid pile of dirt with a pretty little headstone sitting atop it. The dirt began to move around the grave and suddenly a hand ripped through the ground*. The hand started to pull its body out of the dirt. Ahnkarah disguised as Agnes came out of the grave and brushed the dirt off of her.

"I always hate doing this." She muttered grumpily to herself before starting the process. Tingly and uncomfortable, she never quite got used to it. A useful power being able to hide in a new human skin while the vampire lies dormant.

Useful, especially when you have many different pasts that could catch up to you.

Useful for someone who liked to hide.

Changing into her new appearance, she became a girl with black brown hair and dark eyes whom she had previously decided to name Sandrine. A very beautiful girl but with nothing too distinct that could be used to identify her later.

She had known she needed to die soon as Agnes in order to become a girl Bella's age, so she would be able to follow her. She had promised Bella that she was going to do great things in life, and Agnes, or better, Sandrine, would fulfil that promise. It is the least she could do since otherwise she would have to completely start a new in a different location. That had been so boring and complicated last time.

The plan was going to work perfectly, but she was missing a key aspect of the plan, her father. She did not know where he was, but she needed him. How can one be a teenage girl in America with no documentation? Simple, find an adult to lie about it for you.  She would travel all over in order to find him. He still owed her anyway.

A/N: Chapter Notes

*: I so badly wanted to put in the line "like every other cliche zombie movie" as my 12 year old self put it but I thought it would kill the mood too much.

Don't worry this story is so much like a trust the process because I'm going to slowly piece things together instead of just info dumping at the beginning. Slow and steady is how all books should operate in my opinion.
