The Knight, he was always welcome to visit the outside border of where the castle once stood. He always made the princesses laugh and feel better after a long day.
He protected the princesses from evil witches, and their evil followers. This always seemed to make the princesses happy, no matter how bad the witches made them feel.
This went on for a while, the princesses being his friends, and him protecting them.
But one day he came with bad news, he would have to leave them for a journey on his own, for awhile.
The princesses asked him to promise to see them again, and to tell them when he'd see them again. He promised, and told them he'd see them in about a year.
Still no sight of their knight except for a fleeting glimpse in a group of shadows.
