Freedom Calling
LIAM
I woke up feeling refreshed, and hungry. For some odd reason I was craving apples. I walked in to my kitchen only to find out I have no apples. I decided on driving to the store to get some. Besides, I needed groceries anyways. And the best place to get them is the store down the road.
I showered and dressed then headed to my car. Pulling out of the driveway I turned on the radio and the song 'Rude', by Magic, was playing. I sang along and even added my own version to the song. And being by myself I decided to add some dance moves. Throwing my hands in the air, stomping my feet. I was having a great time. So great I didn't notice someone crossing the street. I slammed on my brakes, causing my car to squeal. The person flew onto my windshield, and then rolled off onto the road.
I hurried out of my car and to the person, who I found out was a girl. She was lying on the ground trying to get up. All bruised and all bloody.
"No, no! Lay still, I'm calling an ambulance!" I scurried to get my phone. Dialing the number, her hand came and took the phone away. "Miss-"
"No..please don't call the police." She said. "Don't you can't call them." Slowly she sat up and I carefully reached for my phone. She pulled away.
"Miss, please. You could be hurt really bad and just not know it. Besides this would be a hit and run if I didn't call." I said. "Which is illegal, might I add."
"Look, I'll make this easier on both of us." She started to stand but was having trouble so I stood to help her up. "I'll just leave." She smiled sarcastically.
Turning to walk away I grabbed her wrist. "Hold up, where do you think you're going? Are you delusional?" I asked.
She just smiled. "No, see I'm trying out this new thing." She put my phone in her pocket turned and ran.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" I called out. Running towards her I tripped and fell.
"Hey pal! You hit me, so I'm running!" Then she disappeared though the woods.
"No!" I yelled as I threw my fist into the grass. "You have got to be kidding me!"
COOPER
I can not believe I just did that. I feel terrible. But, he is the one who hit me with his car. So in a way, he owes me. I just couldn't let him call my uncle. That would have been a tragedy.
I finally come to a stall when I see a big white fenced in house. The garage was closed and there seemed to be no one home. I walked around the fence and found a window that had been left open. I climbed over the fence and ran to the opened window, crouching underneath it. I didn't hear any commotion going on inside so I crawled through and into a bedroom. The house almost looked vacant. As if no one had lived here for months. I set my backpack on the bed and scoped out the room. There was a bathroom connected ti the room and a walk-in closet. The room had two stand up dressers. And a nightstand by the overly sized king bed.
I felt filthy so I decided on taking a shower. I walked into the bathroom and turned on the water. Once I was in I noticed there was no shampoo, or soap, so I just scrubbed the blood off of me. It stung to rub over my sore spots where Uncle Jay hit me. I didn't have very many bruises from the car hitting me.
I stepped out of the shower and found a towel under the sink. I dried off and picked out some clothes from my bag. They smelled like 'home'. No, they smell like him. Uncle Jay. I wish I had something that smelled like home, but I don't have a home. I'm on my own now. Alone and free.
I crawled into the bed and got comfortable. Leaving the window open, I looked up and said a quick prayer. Thanking God that I didn't have to suffer anymore beatings from my uncle. No more pain. No more beatings. And no more slaving away. I was free at last. Smiling to myself I fell asleep to this thought. The last thing I remember is the sound of the wind blowing outside.
