"Levi, sir, do you hate me?"
"Tch, why would you ask that? you're wasting your breath with stupid questions, just stop talking."
"Heh, it doesn't matter, I don't have much time left. Levi. . . Where will I go? When I die."
"You're not going to die, Cadet (l/n). Now shut up, the medical unit will be here soon."
"Will they? That's good, you have injuries too. I hope they patch you up before they take care of my body."
"Stop saying such stupid, pointless comments, Cadet."
"You're right, it's pointless to wonder and hope for something in a future - near or far - that I'll never see. Right? Even so, I'll make one last wish: Levi, I wish that one day you will be living in a world without Titans. And that you'll be happy - maybe even smile for once. And last; that you'll never be alone. You'll always have someone with you - for the good times and the bad. Alright?"
" You. Will not. Die, Cadet. Not today. Not here. Not now. Do you understand me? That's an order."
"Oh, shove your orders, Levi. It's you who should stop talking nonsense. You know I won't live - you've known this whole time. Just promise me something, ok?"
". . . Fine, Cadet, what is it?"
"Promise no matter what happens and no matter how much time passes, that you won't forget me."
". . . I promise. . . "
"Thank you, Levi. . . "

The medical unit arrived a minute later.
There was nothing they could do.
Levi replayed those last moments in his head countless times while his more serious wounds were treated, your lifeless body still in his arms.
Promise no matter what happens and no matter how much time passes, that you won't forget me.
"I promise, (F/N)."
Thank you, Levi. . .
~ Hundreds of years later ~
Chilly October air blasted into the small pastrie shop as a short, dark-haired man walked in. The shop was far from full with the few customers that sat quietly at the cafe tables.
"Can I help you?" A lady behind the register asked.
Her name tag read; 'Hello my name is Petra'.
"Yes, a small cake. With the words 'Happy Birthday Erwin', if you could."
Petra smiled, "Sure thing. Just a minute please."
The ravenette nodded while the girl set to work with a miniature chocolate cake. She packed it gently into a cake box and handed it to the man, along with a recipt.
"Ten dollars and fifty-two cents, sir."
He handed her three fives and waited as she counted it and tucked into the register.
"Your change, sir. Thank you for stopping at Maria's pastries and have a wonderful day."
"You as well."
On his way out, the man caught a glimpse of (h/c) at one of the tables. He paused. Something deep in his memory clicked and suddenly he was before the girl who's hair her saw.
Her (e/c) eyes flicked up from the screen of her laptop and she gave the man a small smile.
"Did you need something?"
No matter what happens.
He shook his head, eyebrows scrunched in confusion at the whisper that spoke in his head, "No, sorry. You just looked very familiar for some reason. . ."
An equally confused look entered the girl's eyes.
"Now that you say something. . . Have we met?"
No matter how much time passes.
"Levi."
"(Y/N)."
That you won't forget me.
Slowly, hazy memeories filled Levi's thoughts - as if they were from another time. Another life.
"I promise, (Y/N)." He whispered half to himself.
The picture came together.
The girl's eyes widened with recognition.
"Levi. . . " She said his name with more meaning and emotion.
"Looks like I kept my promise." The ravenette said with a small smile.
(Y/N) laughed and nodded, dabbing at the corners of her eyes. "So you did. I guess my wish came true too."
"Not quite yet", Levi held out his hand.
She gave him another confused look but took it anyway.
"(Y/N), will you marry me?"
Surprise lit her face and more tears dotted the corners of her eyes.
"Yes!"
Levi smiled and kissed her, "Now I'll always have someone with me - for the good and the bad times."
"And you actually smiled."
"So I did."
