Chapter Ten: The Eye of a Storm
June 2018 {Twenty seconds Later}
"Call the cops," Jason said. "Now,"
"Jason," said May. "Wait."
"I knew I shouldn't have let him out of that door." Jason grumbled. "Never mind. I'll do it,"
He wheeled himself toward the door of his room.
Blood pounding. Heart-haltingly May had to suddenly sort everything in her head.
It wasn't just Ryan. Ryan was a pawn.
But he still killed her parents.
Oh, what should she do?
Follow her heart? Follow her head?
Help, Head. Help Heart.
A leap of faith. That's what she needed.
"I said wait." She called after him. "How much did you hear?"
He turned his head around. Difficult thing for him to do.
"I heard enough,"
"Jason-"
"Are you telling me that he didn't kill our parents?"
"No-"
"Why are you protecting a murderer?" he asked, wheeling himself to face her. Craning his head was too hard. It put too much stress on his spine. "Is it because you still love him?" he spat.
The word seemed ugly from his lips.
A Leap of faith. A bloody huge Leap.
She hoped it wasn't a deadly drop.
"You want to avenge our parents?" she asked.
"You know I do,"
"Then let me tell you the whole story," she breathed out. "Maybe then we can catch the real murderer. Then we'll have enough proof to put them both in jail,"
"But-"
"We can call the police. They'll come here. Then what? We don't have proof that Ryan killed our parents." She continued. "But if we catch the mastermind then we'll have our proof. And our closure. Don't you want this to end Jason? So that we can move on? Because I want to. I'm sick of it haunting us for years and years. I want to be happy. Don't you?"
He stared at her.
She glared back.
"Fine,"
"Good."
