Aside from being fired recently, which was already earth shattering, Clem had been cheated on. By her longtime boyfriend, who was the one who got her to move to this expensive city, since his stepdad, who was his uncle, had money and offered them residency in the rich part of New York.

So it was a shock to find her boyfriend whilst she was on break, she'd forgotten something at home and walked into something that devastated her.

Luckily, her coworker Violet was more than willing to let her stay with her until things get better and she finds a place. And a job.

Clem passes through the herd of people on the wide sidewalk passing graffiti laden apartments and stores, it was rush hour and everyone was bumping into each other, loud cursing and voices bothered her, but she was just ready to get back to the apartments.

Finally Clem makes it to the end of the block, to the brick building that was very old and in need of a good paint job.

She walks up the cement steps, disregarding the the kids playing on them with a smile.

"So how was the interview?"

Violet asks as soon as Clem walks into the tidy apartment, the blonde sat on the couch that was center of the living room among many other things. The tv was on, but no sound.

"I felt like I was at a bar being hit on," Clem sighs, setting her purse on the wooden counter of their kitchen. She sits at the stool, facing her friend who was intrigued.

"Where was your interview again?" Violet perks up a brow, sitting up from her laying position on the brown leather couch, her green eyes narrow in curiosity.

"Didn't I tell you?" Clem crosses her arms. "There was an ad in the news paper,"

"You still read the newspaper?" Violet snickers.

"Just listen," Clem rolls her eyes and crosses a leg over the other. "It was an ad for a secretary position for the Smith building, you know where that is,"

Violet's jaw drops. Which alarmed Clem, who squirms a little in her seat. "You got interviewed by one of the richest companies of our generation and you didn't tell me?"

Clem was quiet, she had no clue Violet would feel so heavily about this.

"Who interviewed you?" Violet was sitting upright now.

"Louis, from what I read he's the only son of the CEO," Clem says briefly and watches Violet shake her head.

"That explains why you felt like you were hit on," Violet stands and crosses her arms now. Her green eyes meeting the gold ones across the way. "Louis is a notorious player, you know that right?"

"I've heard the rumors," Clem says, a little defensive. She didn't know why. "Why? Do you know him?"

"I went to high school with him," Violet sighs, sitting back on the couch with a flop. "He was very popular, he and I were actually friends for awhile, until graduation and his dad pretty much forced him into that capitalistic shithole he was born into."

Clem stared at her for a moment.  "Did the interview at least go well?" Violet asks.

"Yeah, he's nice. I think he liked me," Clem grabs her purse and slides from the chair. "Said I should be expecting to hear from him soon,"

Violet rolls her eyes. "You don't wanna mess around with him, he's just gonna hurt you, you don't want another situation like the last, do you?"

Violet's words hit something deep in Clem's chest.
