Max and I had been dating for a short amount of time. But not that short, 2 months. We wanted to take our relationship to the next step. We still didn't know each other's deep down secrets, like how I was abused as a child or like how I self harm. But I didn't think it was that important. Plus I didn't know a way to tell him that.

I was going to Max's house, by his request. I pulled into the driveway getting out of the car walking up to the door. I knocked with an even rhythm. Seconds later he opened the door smiling. "Hello beautiful, you look gorgeous tonight." He said, his accent thick.

As much as I didn't believe the words "beautiful" or "gorgeous" I said thank you and told him how handsome he looked. He welcomed me into the kitchen where a table was set up. Draped over the surface was a white table cloth with candles lit in the center. Two salad bowls sat on each end of the table with wine glasses half full. The lights were dimmed, a vase of roses was on the counter near a half full bottle of white wine. Piano music played romantically in the background. "This is perfect." I said admiring how much he went through for me.

We both sat down eating the salad he prepared with fresh vegetables from the garden. Sipping on our wine we talked about nonsense, how we always were with one another. When we finished our salads he brought out a steak which he cut in half for us to share. Steamed vegetables served for a side.

After dinner we moved to the couch in the living room watching a romantic comedy. Once it ended Max turned to me. He leaned over kissing me gently, I kissed him back our mouths moving in sync. One of his hands cupped my face as I wrapped my arms around him. It was perfect. We didn't just kiss, we made out, for one of the first times. When we pulled apart for air his face turned serious, "are you ready?" He asked holding my hand. I nodded, proceeded by pressing my lips to his.

He held my hand leading me up to his room. As we entered rose petals covered the floor, candles spotted around the room, and once again, the lights were dimmed. He looked to me kissing me. He walked me to the bed sitting down as I straddled his waist. His hands rested on my hips, gentle at first. As we began yet another hot make out session his grip on my hips tightened. Normal people be bothered by it, but for me it hurt. Max noticed and pulled away. "You look pained, we don't have to do this." He said

"No I want to." I replied, his hands were still on my hips.

He pulled me closer to him by my hips, that was enough for a small, quiet wince to escape my mouth.

"Are you okay?!?" Max asked worried.

"Um..yeah." I lied.

Fresh, deep cuts marked up both of my hips from the night before. Still sensitive and raw the slightest amount of pressure hurt.

"No you're not." He said looking at me.

I didn't know how to respond. I looked at him. "Tell me what's going on, please baby." I could tell he had some sense of what was happening.

I buried my head in his chest crying. I explained everything to him. My childhood abuse, how I self-harmed, everything.

"I love you, please remember that. I love you more than anything. You're perfect. You can change this, you can stop. I'll be here helping you every step of the way as you do it. Because you're strong, and you can fight this." He said holding me close to him.
