"My life is falling apart" Tears started dropping from his eyes watching his fianceé's beautiful face smiling at him for a final time "I love you Hajime, when I die please move on, please take care of Kaito" He sobbed "You're not gonna die, I won't allow it" He tightened his grip around Oikawa's arm
"I love you Tooru, you promised me you'd never leave" He started to raise his voice against the crying weak Oikawa "Hajime please calm down" He stroked Iwaizumi's cheek and his cries echoed in the large empty room.
The machines Oikawa was lying beside were beeping soflty and no one said a word. For a few moments the whole room seemed silent, no one was speaking and it all seemed so peaceful.
"I'm sorry to tell you this but your son has been diagnosed with leukemia, he'll have to get treatment immediately or he won't make it to christmas"
Iwaizumi's body stiffened and the boy sitting on the chair didn't understand what was going on and proceeded to ask what was wrong with him. The doctor explained the situation to the both of them. Iwaizumi wasn't listening, all he could think of was Oikawa, how his final moments were, how he had promised to take care of his son.
Iwaizumi looked at Kaito who was starting to understand the situation he was in. He wasn't crying hell he wasn't showing anything at all. When the doctor stopped talking he looked at the both of them in a calm look.
Iwaizumi nodded and said "Let's get started doctor"
~4 months later~
"Kaito has stopped going to school" Iwaizumi sat on a bench next to the person he knew he could always talk to and trust "I don't- I don't think he's going to live much longer "
He let out a tiny sob as tears were starting to drip from his eyes "I'm so sorry, I-I tried to be a good dad for him but- I guess I failed" He put the flowers down on his grave and wiped away his tears "Thank you for listening, I love you and I'm sorry."
"hey big guy" Iwaizumi sat down next to Kaito's hospital bed "guess what I got you" He smiled and handed him a box "Donuts! And my favorite too" Kaito smiled brightly "Thank you papa" He opened the box and handed a donut to Iwaizumi
"For you papa" Iwaizumi took the donut and bit into it "so how are you feeling today?" Iwaizumi asked with his mouth full of donut "I'm feeling better! at least better then the past week!" He exclaimed proudly "That's good! Remember you're going to make it okay?" Iwaizumi ruffled kaito's hair "Yes!" Kaito grinned and Iwaizumi felt at peace for the first time in 4 long exhausting months.
If only that was the case.. Iwaizumi thought back on that moment. He stood there, limbs heavy and his entire body felt lifeless as if all of his will to live has been drained, sucked dry. It was raining, Iwaizumi didn't care.
He stared at the tiny casket that contained the body of Oikawa's- no his 11 year old son. He stared and stared until everyone was done talking. He didn't listen to any of it. No one here knew him as well as he did.
For example no one knew he was obsessed with robots, he could watch entire documentaries without ever getting bored.
It was cute to see him play with his little robot figurines. Iwaizumi smiled to himself. He was all alone now. No friends, he had cut off all contact. No family, he hadn't seen any of them since Oikawa's death. No one, everyone was gone.
After the funeral Iwaizumi went back home. There was no one to greet him. The silence in his house was almost painful.
He went to his fridge, empty, it had been for awhile now. Iwaizumi was starving but he couldn't care less.
He went to sit on the couch but something caught his eye, a photograph of him, Oikawa and Kaito. He stared at it for a while. He rememered that day. It was a beautiful day so they decided to go to the beach and take some pictures with tis stupid polaroid camera Oikawa once bought
"I told you iwa-chan, this came in handy today didn't it"is what Oikawa said at the end of the day when they lied on the couch together, Oikawa's hand in his "sure dumbass whatever."
It was one of the happiest memories he had.
Iwaizumi remembered the last few days he had with Oikawa, Those days were.. Depressing, hard, for all three of them. They had to go trough everyone visiting, saying goodbye, crying. It was exhausting and painful T
he last moments were worse, Oikawa only repeated the same few words "I love you" is all he said. He didn't let go of Iwaizumi even for a second and then, then he passed. All of the monitors went still and Iwaizumi just sat there. He didn't say or do anything, he just held his hand and let the warm tears roll over his soft red cheeks.
"I love you, and I'll never stop, I'll never stop loving you Oikawa Tooru."
Those were the last things he said to his fiancée, to the love of his life. To his best friend.
