River's POV

"River?" a soft female voice said as I felt a gentle nudge on my shoulder. I jumped as my eyes snapped open and my hands formed fists so I could defend myself against whoever was. I hadn't even realized that I'd fallen asleep. But then my eyes met hers and I froze. A smile spread across her beautiful face. "Don't look too surprised, Riverdale."

"Cat?" I whispered as she straddled my hips and she nodded.

"The one and only," she softly said as she cupped my cheek. "I missed you."

"I missed you too," I said barely above a whisper. Looking at her up close reminded me exactly how beautiful she was. Her messy brown hair was pulled up into a bun and her body was being swallowed by one of my old sweatshirts. Her face was alive with color and her movements were fluid and smooth showing no signs of the near-death experience she'd gone through mere hours earlier.

Her smile grew as she looked around. "Never thought I'd see you in one of these places," she said with a playful laugh, causing me to nervously chuckle as I too looked around, remembering that I was in a chapel.

"Yeah, I was scared and I wanted to make sure you were okay, so I prayed to your God," I admitted, causing her to cup my cheeks and force my attention from our surroundings back to my beautiful baby girl.

"I'm more than okay now," she whispered before she pressed her soft lips to mine in a tender, intimate kiss. I wasted no time giving her what she wanted. I allowed my lips to move gently against hers at first, as if I were getting used to the feeling of her lips actually on mine again. She felt cold but I didn't let that stop me.

I gently gripped the back of her neck before I deepened the kiss, skillfully sliding my tongue into her mouth, causing her to let out a sigh of a laugh. She held me tighter.

I missed her.

I missed this.

I missed us.

"River," she whispered into my mouth as I slowly slid my hands beneath her sweatshirt and up the sides of her ribs.

"Hmm?" I hummed in response.

Her body felt cold too.

"You're going to have to survive without me." Without warning, I tasted blood in my mouth, causing me to instantly pull away just to see blood leaking out of her nose and mouth.

"Cat-!" I started only to be interrupted by her haunting scream as blood started leaking from her abdomen where she'd been shot. "No, no, no," I whispered to myself as I put my hands on the wound to try and stop the bleeding, but it was like I was paralyzed.

"River help me!" She begged as the blood stain on her clothes grew at an alarming rate. I wanted to say something, I wanted to move, but it was as if I was rendered completely lame.

Suddenly there was the sound of another gunshot and a bullet hole appeared in her forehead. She looked at me with tear filled eyes. "You were supposed to protect me," she whispered in a broken voice before her body slouched over and leaned against mine. She wasn't moving.

"Cat?" I finally managed, barely above a whisper. "Cat, baby girl?" My voice shook as I spoke. "Please..." I wrapped my arms around her, feeling her blood draining onto me. I was shaking. I was crying. I didn't know what to do, so I did the only thing that I could.

I screamed.

And screamed.

And screamed.

"Riverdale!" A voice strongly called, causing my eyes to snap open, my heart beating outside my chest and my tears blurred by tears. I frantically looked around and saw that I was still in the chapel with a female nurse looking down at me with a concerned look on her face and the bloody clothes I'd discarded in her arms.
