"Are you sure you're ready for this?" River lowly asked me as we got closer and closer to our final destination. "Not that I don't trust your judgement but...it's just that too much has already happened and I really don't like the idea of you putting yourself in another risky position."

"I'm sure," I firmly responded. "We've been training for this, remember? Plus, you and the boys will be there, so there's nothing to worry about, right?"

River stayed silent, this thumb gently stroking my knuckles. "I'll let you handle this your way, but if I even think that she's got something up her sleeve, I'll kill her."

My throat became tight as I swallowed. God, I hoped she didn't have anything up her sleeve. I've seen too much already and that just might push me over the edge. I looked down at my hands as I mentally ran through everything the boys and I had discussed, trying to make sure that I wasn't forgetting anything. Yeah, I was going to make Heather pay, but it was on my terms, not the boys. They wanted her dead, and no matter how much I hated everything she did to me and everything she tried to do to me, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Even if I wasn't the one pulling the trigger. Just the weight of knowing that I'd sent out that order to do so... a shiver ran down my spine. I didn't want to think about it.

I pushed the on button and the burner phone River had gotten and looked over the text messages we'd exchanged, triple checking that I hadn't sounded to suspicious or eager. I'd texted her acting as River, knowing that she'd do anything for him. I'd told her that he'd broken up with me and that he wanted to meet with her to "talk". She'd instantly replied. We were scheduled to meet at ten in the park where no one usually was. I looked at the rings the decorated my knuckles, minus my engagement ring, and thought back on how savagely she'd beaten me without remorse or pity.

I wasn't going to regret what was about to go down.

So why was my heart beating out of my chest as River parked the car?

"Baby girl, look at me," he gently said. I turned toward him, and even in the dark, he looked beautiful. "Do what you have to do, but don't be afraid to call for help, okay?"

"Okay."

"I love you my future wife."

I smiled. "I love you too my future husband."

He grinned before he pulled me close and kissed me, soft and intimate. When he pulled away he rested his forehead on mine. "After this, we'll be free. Free to live our lives as we want without having to worry about any of this. We'll have our own family and each other and Liam and Mason and the twins and Maria and just everyone."

"Yeah," I agreed. "And it will be amazing."

He smiled and kissed me one more time before he checked the clock. We still had ten minutes before this all was supposed to go down. Just then, Liam and Mason's car pulled up right next to us and I squeeze River's hand before I unbuckled my seatbelt. "Be careful," I advised.

"You too, baby girl," he said as he kissed my hand before I hurried from his car to theirs before River pulled off to inspect the park and go to the other side where he'd been due to meet Heather.

"Hey, Kit Kat," Mason greeted, though his tone didn't carry its usual level of playfulness and humor. He was serious, they both were. They, like River we're dressed in all black and I could see the guns sticking out of their waistbands. They weren't playing.

I bit my bottom lip. This could get messy.

"Cat," Mason said, causing me to look at him as he turned in his seat to face me before he took my hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "Do what you gotta do." I offered him a small smile as I nodded.
