Why are we not good enough?

I'm fourteen years old, a teenager. Still technically a child. But society does not treat me like one. It treats my growing brain as stupid, and my still being young, as my fault. Many people lable my generation 'lazy' and 'not as good' as the last.

But why are we putting such harsh labels on a generation, where most of us arent done growing up? Why are we, as a people, not looking at the reasons that this generation might be this way?

People my age are 'on electronics to much' and 'never go outside'. Why is that? Maybe, were on our phones because we have them available to us. Maybe, we spend time on the computer because we live in a digital world. Maybe we are using the resources we have. It's not our fault that you didn't have that. It's not our fault that were young.

We dont go outside, because it's not nearly as safe. We dont go outside, because you've left us a planet that is dying. A planet that has had irreversible changes made to, that we have to deal with for the rest of our short-lived lives. You don't.

Were labeled rude, and irritable. Wouldnt you be too? You've left us a world that hates change, you've left us a world unwilling to change. You've left us a world that doesnt accept us. A world that gets mad at us for being who we are.

You put constant overwhelming pressure on us in schools to do better, to be better. You just dont see that we already are. That were doing everything we can. You made our learning how to be alive, a functioning human being, a test. Something we can fail. Something that we cant undo if we do fail. And you wonder why teen suicide rates are at a significant all time high.

Some of us are wanting to end our own lives, some of us DO end our own lives. How is that not showing you that we are doing something, utterly and horribly wrong? How is this all happening, and you still refuse to change?

Why are we not good enough? Why are we labeled all these things, instead of letting us just live our lives? Why are we degrading our youth, instead of encouraging them? Why can't we just be kids? Because that's what we are. For now.

Soon, we'll take over. How about, until then, try to make it a bit easier for us when we do? It's only going to get worse from here. Let's start trying to pick up the mess we've made, before it's to late.

Before we're to late.
