"We have a man in custody!"
Bria sprang up suddenly, notebook in hand, and rushed off in the direction the officer had come from. Sure enough, a man was pinned to the ground, attempting to escape the grip of his comprehenders. The scuffle, Bria assumed, was from the man trying to escape the officers.
As the young fox girl approached, the features of the man slowly came into view. He wore a blue suit, which had traces of crimson blood on it. His hair was a similar blue, along with his eyes. The pale complexion of his skin seemed to burn in the bright golden sunlight, which shone down on the crime scene in a disturbingly peaceful manner.
The husky voice of the man called out to the officers, "Release me at once! Let me go!"
One of the officers responded, "Sorry, we cannot do that. You are in possession of a used blade on the scene of a murder and an assault with an attempt to murder. You are under arrest for possession of a knife and potential violence."
Gradually approaching, Bria's legs trembled like gelatin. Something seemed off about the entire scene, especially one key detail: This mystery attacker had metallic wolf ears and a matching tail.
Trying to collect herself, Bria asked, "Are you the Hybrid Killer?"
A few of the officers seem to be confused, as if they had believed they had already caught the man, when the mysterious stranger answered, "No, I am not. I'm merely an assistant in this particular plot."
"How many of you are there overall in these five cases of murder and one of physical assault?"
The man responded with a wicked-sounding cackle before adding, "You think there are only six crimes total? You dumb fools... all of you! There are at least a dozen of us underneath the Hybrid Killer scattered throughout the county! Even if you catch one of us, we won't talk. We all swear to an oath, and it won't be broken!"
Intrigued and writing furiously in her notebook, she inquired his name, and what he had done at the current crime scene they were all gathered upon, along with if it was just him who had commited the crimes, or if he had company.
"For one, my name is Anders. Anders Pyronamia. Second, I did some attacking, but no killing, you'll have to beat the rest out of me. Three, I was alongside the Hybrid Killer himself..." He added the final words with a ghostly, almost warning and disturbingly happy voice "He could still be here on the premises right now."
Quickly, Bria noted the Hybrid Killer was a male and glared at Anders, suddenly and abruptly lunging forth to kick him. She felt arms restrain her, however, and when she turned she saw Scott McCreal holding her back from attempting to go all out in a blind rage.
"Scott, this man killed one more member of my family! Let me go! He deserves it!"
Scott's gripped only tightened as she spoke, an obvious attempt at hiding annoyance poking its head in his voice. "Bria, no. We do not beat those who we get into custody. He may have killed some of your family, but you need to relax before you do anything irrational and do more harm than good."
Bria snapped a little back at him. "Well, he isn't answering to me when I'm being all nice! Maybe he'll answer if I force him to!"
Scott whipped her around, a look of anger in his eyes. "HOW ABOUT YOU STAND DOWN AND LET THE POLICE HANDLE IT?! You may be a detective, but you do NOT get to decide how suspects are handled and treated!"
Stunned by the sudden raising of his voice, Bria froze in his place. During the silence, a small ping was heard on the ground. Turning his head slowly, Anders grinned at what he saw, bracing himself for what was a few moments away.
The entire group was knocked to the ground as an explosion originated from a small device. Anders' holders had lost their grip, and so with a grin, the blue-haired maniac rose to his feet declared to the group, "Sayonara, losers!"
Angrily, Scott barked into his radio for a few cruisers to hunt him down, while a call was made for the bomb squad to hurry to the scene to see if there were more bombs within the area. The officers who had lost hold of Anders were sent to evacuate the building, just in case there happened to be bombs inside of the building itself.
Looking around, there was one officer Bria didn't notice among the crowd of officers rushing to handle the situation. The blond man who she had met earlier that day, just about an hour ans a half prior to the entire incident. She had seen him leaving, but never saw him arrive. Collecting herself, she pulled Scott aside and explained what she had noticed, not assuming anything, but asking if this was consistent with him.
Scott's eyes widened slightly at the mention of Scott vanishing only an hour and a half before the crime, as it was about a twenty-minute ride to arrive, and the situation had been reported about ten minutes after it had occurred, leaving a whole hour empty.
"He also has been basically the first to arrive on the scene of any Hybrid Killer case... it's honestly odd. You don't think he's ...do you?"
Bria shook her head. "Even with the evidence suggesting it, that would, in my five years of experience, be too easy of a catch. Besides, maybe he knows someone working undercover for him, and he just hasn't exposed it yet because his spy doesn't want to be killed by the Hybrid Killer?"
Scott nodded a little bit in agreement. "A valid point. However I do suggest we maybe swing by his place. The guy gave me his keys a while back for house-sitting, maybe we'll find something."
"Isn't that illegal without a search warrant?"
"At this point, Bria, we need all of the information we can get. If he has a spy monitoring the Hybrid Killer, we need to know. Besides, I have permitted access to his house through the keys. Consider it our own personal investigation."
Bria sighed, defeated. "Well, if we both get arrested and lose our jobs I'm blaming you for this."
Scott agreed to take the blame as the two hurried to the cruiser and rushed back to the station in order to swap cars before making their way towards Fahri's house, not sure of what to expect, and not sure of what they may enter into.
