You couldn't sleep. You'd been tossing and turning for hours but there were just too many things weighing on your mind. Your roommate was out of town for the week and the apartment felt vast and empty without anyone else there.
You had broken up with your boyfriend last week in a very unceremonious fight at a club where you'd gone to relax and see a show. You'd run into him there with another girl, while he was supposed to be spending the evening at a buddy's house.
He was the one in the wrong and yet he tried to make it all about you, shouting and causing a scene. You'd never seen this side of him before and it scared you. It had also caught the attention of the lead singer of one of the bands while they were between sets. He had security tell your now ex-boyfriend to get lost, and the he checked on you.
You were shaken up, and all you could really remember were his blue eyes. Those eyes were the most calming, kind eyes you had ever seen. Kurt was the guy's name, and he was probably a year or two older than you. He was handsome in his own way, but what drew you to him was how much he seemed to genuinely care.
You two talked for a bit, mostly about if you had a safe place to stay and a way to get there. He offered to take you, but you declined, embarrassed. He asked if you could at least exchange phone numbers and addresses so he could keep in touch and check up on you. Normally this would have made you feel unsafe but there was something so comforting about his presence.
Now a whole week had gone by and you hadn't heard from him. But he lingered on your mind far too often. You wondered if he was single. You wondered if he ever thought of you. Did he think you were cute? Or was he just being nice? The more you thought about those eyes and his long blonde hair, the more attractive he became to you. And now you couldn't stop thinking about him, but you were too shy to call.
There was a distinct knock at your door. You jumped, startled. Who could have possibly been there? Tiptoeing from your bed, you glanced through the peephole. It was him! Kurt! Your stomach did a flip flop and your heart hammered in your chest as you slowly undid the lock and swung the door open.
"Hi, (Y/N)," he said shyly. "I—uh—I just had a feeling maybe I should check on you tonight. I hope that's okay."
"Yes, of course. Come in." You motion for him to enter the apartment.
"It's good to see you again," Kurt said, as the two of you faced one another in the foyer.
"It's good to see you too," you answer and you feel your cheeks blush, realizing you're only wearing a silk tank top and shorts that you'd worn to bed.
"Listen. I haven't been able to stop thinking about the other night, and the way your boyfriend treated you. It just wasn't right..."
"Ex-boyfriend," I interjected. "I haven't seen him since and I have no intention to."
"Well I'm glad. He doesn't deserve you." Now both of our cheeks were blushing and I felt Kurt's eyes shift over my body. "I hope it's not weird that I stopped by. I just kept thinking about you—how sweet you seemed, how beautiful you are. I knew I couldn't live with myself if something had happened to you."
"Wow, Kurt. I mean, thanks. You seem very sweet yourself." And now you were blushing furiously, noticing how truly handsome the man standing before you was as he stepped closer to you, blue eyes soft with kindness. You two paused and gazed at one another, tension filling the air. No one had ever looked at you the way he was looking at you now— like you were absolutely everything.
"Can—can I kiss you?" He asked very softly. Even though it seemed sudden, you found yourself nodding, reaching out to him. When his lips found yours it was like nothing else in the entire universe. You pulled apart for a second, startled, before your lips crashed into one another's. He pulled you close and you tangled your hands in his blonde hair, wondering how a stranger could feel so much like home.
When you finally pulled apart, you were both breathing heavily, grinning at one another.
"I'm glad you were thinking of me tonight," you confessed. "Because I couldn't stop thinking about you either."
