— Foreword —
This is a soulmate au. In it, everyone has a mark of some sort, tying them to their soulmate, indicating who it is. For some it is a mark on their skin, but for others it is hanahaki. For those with the hanahaki indicator, there is only one other person in the world who has the same flowers as you do, and when you kiss your soulmate for the first time, they go away. In this case, the disease usually doesn't kill you, it's more of a nuisance, although if you still hadn't found your soulmate when you reached an old age it would make it difficult.
Those with the hanahaki indicator generally will wear one of their flowers pinned to their shirt in the hopes of finding their soulmate. There is a superstition that if you don't find your soulmate by the time you turn 25, you never will.

"Hurry up Blue, you're gonna be late!" Your roommate called from downstairs. You were standing in front of the mirror taking a final deep breath before heading downstairs. You smoothed back your hair into its smart ponytail and reached for the delicate stem on top of the dresser. You carefully pinned the bluebells to your blazer lapel, looking at them a little sadly. You had just coughed the stem up this morning and the bright color of the blossoms were teasing you. You sighed a little and then squared your shoulders and headed down the stairs.
"I'm nervous for this interview," you told Taehyung when you reached the door. He smoothed your blazer and smiled at you sweetly, tugging a few pieces of your hair out of the ponytail to frame your face carefully.
"Don't be nervous, you'll do great. And even if you don't get the job, you're going somewhere new, seeing a whole new set of people!" His eyes flickered to the flower pinned to your chest and he brushed it lightly with his fingertips. "Honestly - I hope you meet your soulmate soon I really do, but I'll be a little sad to see the flowers go," he chuckled.
You laughed easily along with him. You and Taehyung had been roommates and best friends for a few years now and he had always admired your bluebells. His mark was a tattoo of his soulmate's name on his wrist and he always complained that it was boring in comparison - until he met the one with a matching tattoo of his own name of course. The man in question came out of the kitchen now and handed you a travel mug, smiling.
"Don't listen to him, we can get flowers whenever we want," Jimin said, smiling at you. Taehyung slipped his hand around the man's waist as you took the mug with a smile, leaning in and kissing them each on the cheek.
"Alright - here I go! Thank you guys so much," you said to them as you grabbed your purse and headed for the door, sipping from the mug. You made a face and swallowed it. "This is tea," you whined.
"You're supposed to be cutting back on coffee," Jimin called after as you pulled the door closed behind yourself, pouting.
When you had gone Jimin swatted Taehyung. "Don't tell her you'll miss her flowers, don't you want her to be happy?"
