Chapter 2

Percy P.O.V.

It has been six months since I started at Yancy. Grover, Annabeth, Thalia, and I have all become really close friends. The funniest thing is that they don’t suspect that the demigod in the school is me. I chuckled at the thought of it.

“Hey Percy!” I heard Thalia call from behind me, trying to catch up. I stopped walking and pulled my cane in. (It is collapsible)

“Hey Thalia” I replied, as she slipped her hand into the crook of my elbow. It had become a habit now, instead of using my cane, I would ‘rely’ on my friends to help me move around. It made me feel more included, and it was an easier way of hiding who I truly was.

The reason I was hiding myself was so the monster that was lurking about the school wouldn’t attack any of my friends. I was actually very surprised that neither the monster or the demigods, satyr or centaur had noticed each other, but I am going to keep it that way. I was snapped out of my musings by Thalia, who was by now screaming my name.

“PERCY, ARE YOU IN THERE?!” she screamed. I blinked a few times to get my bearings, but then I realized that my eyes were useless. Huh, I guess a blind guy sometime does forget that he is blind.

“Yes Thalia?” I ask calmly, staring straight ahead as though I couldn’t see her.

She was about to answer before I suddenly heard a sharp noise.

“Shhh,” I whispered, putting my fingers over my lips. “Did you hear that?”

Thalia was tense next to me and suddenly we found ourselves in an empty corridor.

“Percy, you have to get out of here now,” she whispered harshly, trying to get me to leave, but I had no intention of leaving. Instead I gently pulled my hand out of hers and started to head towards the noise. “Percy no…” she started but I turned sharply to face her for the first time and put my finger to my lips. Her expression told me that she was surprised at my actions, since I was blind. She must have thought I had faced the direction her voice was coming from. I turned back to the front and slowly pulled out riptide, my trusty sword.

I walked slowly forwards, before I got to the corner, I stopped. I could hear the monster walking towards us, slowly advancing. My senses told me that it was coming closer and closer and with Thalia safely behind me I decided to make myself known.

“Hello, Ms. Dodds?” I shouted into the corridor, wondering if she would actually show herself to such a stunt, but sure enough, after a few seconds, the incredibly dumb monster made her appearance. I slashed upwards at her, swinging my sword in an arc forged from years of training. I hit her right by the collar bone and she burst into dust. I capped my sword and turned to face Thalia, and I couldn’t help but to burst out laughing. Her face was so comical!

Her mouth was sitting completely open, almost resting on the floor.

“I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t be laughing that hard, but oh my gods. Your face is priceless!” oops. I think her mouth just dropped open further, then suddenly it turned angry, and, forgetting that I was the demigod they were looking for, she got right in my face.

“So you are not blind? You’ve been lying to us the whole time?!” she shouted and I could tell she was feeling very hurt at the thought of a friend lying to her.

“No, of course I didn’t lie. I am blind, can’t see a thing,”

“Then how did you fight the monster,”

“Without sight,”

“Prove it,”

I sigh. No one at this school has seen me without my shades before and I was going to keep it like that. But she needed to trust me so I slowly took the glasses off.

THALIA’S P.O.V.

He slowly took his glasses off and I didn’t know what to expect. Personally, I can’t believe that he was blind and just killed a monster. The glasses came off and I couldn’t help but to gasp.

His eyes were glassy and milky, and they didn’t move. The color was a pale green that would have been an amazing color if not for the disability.

“What on earth happened, will you tell me now?” I asked him hoping he would explain.

He sighed “Fine. When I was little I was thrown onto the streets and a monster chased me. I got cornered and the monster blew fire into my eyes. I stumbled into the sea where my dad found me. With all the healing powers of the ocean, nothing could correct my vision, but since I am the son of Poseidon so I can see with all the water molecules in the air, so I can see and 3D object with great accuracy,”

“So you are the son of Poseidon?”

“Yep,”

“And you actually are blind?”

“Yep”

“And you’ve been living with your dad?”

“Yep”

“Show me how you can see,”

He nodded in agreement and suddenly his eyes were a bright sea green color, as if he was blind, but his eyes still remained unmoving, though his whole body straightened, as if everything around his suddenly became more accurate. “Did you know your eyes look completely normal when you use your power?”

“Really? Oh, I didn’t know that, thanks for telling me,”

Then I suddenly remembered that he was the demigod we were looking for. How did I miss it?!

“Come on, we have to tell Grover, Annabeth and Chiron! Then we can go back to camp!” I shouted at him, suddenly excited since I was the one who discovered Percy. When we turned towards the door his arm slipped into mine. “What are you doing?” I asked him, since I now knew.

“Well I have keep up the act for the other school kids and teachers, and this way we can scare the life out of the others,” he answered with a mischievous smile upon his face, I smirked evilly and we headed down the corridor.
