“Something Lost Will Never Return”

Chapter Nine:

The Teikou Middle School Basketball Club. An incredibly strong team with over one hundred members and three consecutive championship wins. Amongst their brilliant record, the generation of five prodigies was known as the “Generation of Miracles”. Despite being relatively unknown and lacking a game record, there was one more member recognized by the five prodigies. A phantom sixth man.

Kuroko couldn’t stop himself from trembling and fidgeting as his phone –yes, miraculously, it survived the crash Akashi did—continued ringing and vibrating on top of the bed of the Akashi’s Residence’s guest room.

And only one name continued to register on its’ Caller ID: Haruhiko Keiji, his one and only torturous and violent older male cousin who was surely upset and waiting for him at their residence as of the moment.

He opened his room’s door silently and secretly as he looked for his former captain, Akashi Seijuuro. “Could anyone please explain what’s happening here?” The red-head demanded as he watched their house’s maids being inside the kitchen and then the dining room and then the living room and back to the kitchen again. It was like they were preparing something the red-head obviously had no idea about. “I’ll give you three seconds. If no one answers me, you’ll all get fired!” He demanded.

The maids glanced at one another and the head of them finally stepped forward and started to explain, “Well, you see, Young Master, Master Shoujuro asked us to…” Kuroko didn’t hear the rest as he silently closed the door and slowly approached the bed, and picked up his ringing phone.

It stopped for awhile and then began to ring again between his palms. He looked back at the shut door and gathered all his courage before pressing the ‘Answer’ button. “H-Hello?” He whispered.

“Well, well, well, so you finally picked up. What, you finally gathered your courage back?” Haruhiko Keiji sarcastically replied from the other line.

“Actually, I just thought that if I finally answer your call—you’ll also finally stop from calling.” Kuroko responded with his natural tone: emotionless.

He almost heard the way his cousin’s brows furrowed from the other line. “What’s this? When did you learn to answer me back, huh, Tetsuya? Let me guess, you’re in Akashi Seijuuro’s house, aren’t you?”

His eyes widened with the correct guess of Haruhiko.

“Oh? I was right? Then, that must be the reason why you feel so overly-confident in answering me back? Let me tell you this: tomorrow morning, I’ll bring you back home whether you like it or not. I’ll even stab your heart if I need to.”

“No. I will not go back there…” He responded with firm tone despite how his hands trembled in fright that what his cousin was saying was true. I don’t want to go back there…I don’t want to even see you again.

“Oh? What about your parents and brother’s whereabouts? Such a shame, just when I finally got an update on where they possibly were. What a shame, I probably should just erase what I know from my memories then, ei, Tetsuya?” He could almost hear the smirk in Haruhiko’s tone.

It could be a trap… His mind whispered. But what if it was true? His heart protested.

“You’re…not lying, are you?” He mumbled.

“Hm, I wonder, why don’t you figure out yourself if I am or I am not?” There was the hint of challenege and victory in his voice.

He shut his eyes and whispered with shivering voice, “W-What do you want?”
