Growing up as a kid, we used to have those craziest imaginations as a way to see the world. We dreamed of becoming superhero agents, fighting monsters in another dimension or simply becoming a famous celebrity. I was inspired by famous people like Walt Disney, J.K. Rowling (author of Harry Potter), Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time), Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Samurai Jack), Stan Lee (Marvel comics), Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail) and George Lucas (the Star Wars franchise).
Between third and sixth grade, I used to draw a lot of anime and keep my face in front of an encyclopedia since I find it difficult to fit into any crowds. I would write illustrated stories and draw comics on whatever paper I could find which are based on my daily experiences when I'm not buried in schoolwork. It was in high school did I dream of becoming a successful writer and artist! I wasn't exactly the brightest Picasso everyone could look up to. Let's just say I'm what people would call "a weird introvert, salty and unsophisticated with amateur art skills."
After thinking about what I can do to improve my flaws, I started working on a graphic novel. I developed a character name Mina while trying to imitate the Disney art style - but instead looked like a weird anime hybrid (see concept art below). She went from a static random character to a young spy with a strong personality. Then everything is history. The story is aimed to readers of ages 12-15 due to the edgy content and deep themes drawn in anime-esque form, but everyone else can enjoy it. There are bound to be some mistakes at the start but I try to make room for improvements.
Actually, I like to do something extremely different. Being weird and childish shouldn't hold you back from being successful and happy. We deal with the world in our own unique ways. How life would be like if everyone acted normal, lack imagination and do the same thing? That would be pretty boring. Remember, "you do you." You are never too old or dumb for anything.
