The baby squealed causing the big man to turn his head. He was already so close and he couldn't let an infant get in his way. No, he wouldn't let an infant get in his way. It was stupid, this whole scheme to steal the royal jewels, but it would earn he and his "coworkers" a great sum of money. There was no possible way that they could have passed it up.
Clyde was sure he had done it right. He went over the checklist in his head.
1. Smoke bombs, check.
2. Fire rifle towards sky, check.
3. Fire three more times to scare commoners, check.
4. Watch people flee, check.
5. Sneak over to display case holding crown and drug guards, check.
6. Wait for everyone to leave and release sleeping gas into air just to make sure, check.
7. Gas mask, check.
8. Steal the crown anonymously, check.
9. Escape and run for the hills, not yet.
10. Don't get caught, may be a problem at the moment.
Clyde stared at the baby waiting for it to move. It just sat down and wailed. He felt bad for the baby, her family had left her, and now she was all alone in an empty square watching a robbery, helpless. Clyde glanced down at the black walkie-talkie strapped to his vest. He sighed and pressed the small button on the side.
"Um boss," Clyde stuttered, "there's a baby."
"So!" rang back the irritated voice of, his boss, Gerald, "Who even cares if there's a baby! It's probably dead now anyway."
"That's the problem, boss." Clyde said anguished,"it's alive, crying, and worst of all IT WON'T SHUT UP."
"Sounds like you," said a third voice.
"Very funny Mark."
"Leave it," Gerald retorted, "Let it die or something. It's a baby it can't tell the authorities."
"Yeah, but I was thinking-"
"You were thinking, how nice to see you using your brain for once." Mark's deep voice crackled through the speaker like thunder.
"Shut up and let me speak."
"Go ahead, tell us," Gerald sneered.
"So, I was thinking like what if it remembered this and told the cops when it was older. Even though we might be gone, it would be easier for them to track us down, and they might actually be able to catch us eventually, if the baby here gave an accurate description."
"Clyde has a point,"Mark's voice rang out from inside the walkie-talkie. "Maybe we should keep the baby."
"Wha-" Clyde had been expecting orders to kill the baby, even maybe brain wash it. He had never thought about taking it back with him. Even though he was incapable of murder, that would of been a better option than this. Taking it with him wasn't going to be good. He didn't have a better idea so all he could do was agree. "Okay, I guess I'll take it."
"Fine. Whatever. Keep the rotten thing, but remember its your charge." Gerald agreed.
This wasn't going to be good. Not even a bit.
So, after shoving all the crown into the long brown bag he carried, he scooped up the crying baby and stuffed it into the bag too.
"It's going to be a long day." Clyde mumbled and took off out of the city and towards the meeting place where Mark and Gerald would soon meet him.
