Chapter Five - Soul Ties

The Völva house was secluded from the village... only slightly as it was at the edge of the forest.

I walked with confident steps toward her house. It's not like it was uncommon for me to go see her. She was a huge part of our clan, I was however wondering how Loki might feel about us having a seer. I caught  myself short. Why did I care about what this stranger thought of me.

Her dwelling place drew nearer and I noticed Loki's keen curiosity. 

"So your... wise woman... what kind of magic does she practice?" He asked wide eyed. 

"Her magic is vastly different to yours, as I told you she is a seer." I explain as we trod closer to the house. 

"Yes but where did she get these gifts?" Loki asks grabbing my arm as I almost trip over a root. 

"Thank you...I used to think they were from the gods... now I'm not sure." I reply as we continue walking. Loki stops me, his hand sliding down my arm to hold mine. 

"Sigyn I'm not a god...not even Odin is a god. we are just... different." Loki tries desperately to explain.

I looked up at him, wide eyed.

"Different, strange ... yes you are those things." I replied with a soft smile.

"Sigyn..." Loki said softly.

"Come inside Sigyn, do not dawdle at the door." A familiar voice called out from the house causing us both to look toward it.

"Come on!" I smiled, dragging him into the Völva's house.

"Hello Sigyn." Spoke a white haired woman sitting at a golden loom.

"Hello, Verdandi!" I chirped.

The woman turned to face me her bright orange eyes flickering over to my silent companion. 

"And you brought me gifts." She smiles regarding the berries in our baskets...."Well come on in don't be shy!"

Loki shuffled awkwardly toward the seat that she gestured toward.

"Shall I put these away for you?" I asked as I raised the basket slightly.

"That would be wonderful dear. It will give me a chance to speak to the young prince." She replied looking over to Loki. 

I nodded and left the room. off to store the berries properly.

"How did you know I was a prince?" Loki asks suspiciously.

"Some would even call you a god... be careful that that doesn't go to your head. Like your brother."

"You can't possibly know that about me somebody must have told you... not Thor though he would never besmirch his own name." Loki puzzled. 

"It is a gift I was born with. I can see everything." Verdandi smiled softly. 

Loki smiled his eyes widening in realization. "Just like Heimdall." 

"Almost exactly like Heimdall, Though not quite."

Loki nodded and opened his mouth to ask a question.

"Loki?" Verdandi cut him off. 

"Yes?"

"What do you think about our friend Sigyn?" She asked leaning forward, her elbows on her knees.

Loki's face started turning a bright shade of pink.

"...I'd rather not say." Loki replied with an anxious look toward the door. 

"I'm not going to use it against you child... ah well. Let me tell you what I think... or rather what I see."

She moves her hands in a circular pattern and a golden string formed there.

"This is Sigyn's life force. It is not tied to anything. Can you tell me what that means?"

"She has no personal ties with anyone..." Loki remarked softly as he leaned closer to Sigyn's glowing thread. 

"Exactly, not even her father. Now watch..." She said and moved her arms again. "This is Theoric's Life force."

A second string formed red in hue, and tied to many many other strings.

"So he is tied down more, and has more relations than her. So what?"

"You fail to see the point. Her string is not tangled or tied with his." Verdandi smirks.

Loki leaned forward a crease forming in between his eyebrows. 

"She has no feelings for him."

"Yes and yet..." She stretched her hands and more of Sigyn's string was shown and almost at the very start of it, it was tangled with a green string.

"What does that mean?"

"The green string is yours child, and it was tied at the beginning of time." Verdandi says her mystical eyes locking with Loki's.
