It's been 7 years. I haven't seen Min Yoongi in 7 years. Just like I promised, I showed up at the lake. The precious lake where we met. The lake that I promised to show up at on Yoongi's 25th birthday.
He promised to show up to celebrate together, after being separated for such a long time, I finally get to see him again. My first love, my first real crush, my first prohibited relationship.
Our parents separated us when we were just teenagers but we made a promise to each other. If anyone ever found out about us, and if our parents were to separate us, we would go back to the same lake where the magic happened. Our first time seeing each other, our first date, our first kiss, our first time.
We decided on an exact date, Yoongi's 25th birthday. I hope he didn't forget, I for sure didn't forget, a teenager promise, a promise of soulmates.
Just like time goes flying by, time also can go painfully slow. For Hoseok, time was like sharp blades stabbing at his side, at his head, at his feet.
So when he walked to the lake, he felt his heart beating almost out of his chest onto the cold water of the lake, the spring air was starting to kick in, along with the birds' songs on the branches up top, a beautiful melody mixed in with the sound of the water in the lake flowing.
"Hoseok?" The mentioned boy whipped around, to face said voice that said his name. The voice raspy, yet smooth. Music to Hoseok's ears, the boy's features were similar to how they were the day they were pulled apart.
And like no time had passed, Hoseok ran to the elder's arms and embraced him like there was no tomorrow.
"Happy birthday, hyung." Hoseok whispered out, his voice coming out muffled as he dug his face into Yoongi's neck.
Yoongi wasn't hugging back though, he was still in shock that the younger actually showed up. Yoongi had no idea what to do, he was speechless, surprised, he thought that he would just come back to the lake and it would be him alone, he never imagined Hoseok actually remembering. Sure, Yoongi could just as easily have left everything as it was, and never gone to the lake, but he made a promise, and Yoongi always keeps his promises, no matter what.
"Hy-hyung, you have no idea how much I waited for this day, I would- I would always come to this very lake every single year on your birthday hoping you would decide to show up earlier, earlier than we agreed and I always had hope, I always did, hyung. Like you told me. I always had hope." The younger spilled the words onto Yoongi like he was waiting to tell him those exact words for years, which he was.
"Hoseok I..." Yoongi pulled away from the hug and grabbed Hoseok by the shoulders. Hoseok looked into Yoongi's eyes, the eyes he fell in love with, the eyes that shone under the moonlight the night they first met.
"You don't love me anymore, do you?" Hoseok's voice cracked, a lump creating in the back of his throat as Yoongi eyed the floor, his mind making up multiple scenarios of what Yoongi was possibly thinking. Maybe Yoongi wants to say that he's never really loved Hoseok, maybe he's married, maybe he even has children, my God what if he suddenly says he's straight??
"Hoseok I'm sorry, I wanted you to know, what we had going on, it was wrong Hoseok. It was never about actual love, we were teenagers. We were just teenagers, thinking about sex and just... I don't know Hoseok, you know we didn't actually want to get serious. We need to just get over it. Get over it, Hoseok. I already-"
"Bullshit. You know it's not that easy, to forget all about someone, the emotions you felt with that person. You know damn well you're not over me, Yoongi," Hoseok snapped, tears already streaming down his cheeks as he spoke.
"Hoseok it's been seven years, you need to move on with your life. Of course I missed you, of course I loved you, but I realized I had to move on, Hoseok. And you need to do that as well." Hoseok felt weak at the knees as he heard the harsh words leave Yoongi's mouth.
"You don't mean that. You know you don't mean that. If you were over me, you wouldn't have come here in the first place." Hoseok's eyes were red now and he wasn't even trying to hide it at this point. All the tears that left his eyes, every single one of them represented how much he had missed Yoongi and how hurt he was by his words at the moment.
All Yoongi could say was "I'm sorry. Have a nice life, Hoseok," before he walked off into the woods to the other side where his car most likely awaited. Meanwhile Hoseok was still hurt, he put his feet into the lake and let the water caress his feet as he silently sobbed until the numbness consumed him.
The numbness that was so familiar to him. Every time he fell in love he always ended up with his heart broken, this time was not any different.
How foolish of him to think that this time things would work out. How foolish he was to think that Yoongi would actually want to continue whatever it was that they had going on. Hoseok felt like such a fool that he wanted to curl up into a seashell and hide away from everything and everyone.
Over the years, people change. People change their point of view, their ideas, and even the type of people that they choose to fall in love with, and apparently, Hoseok was not one of those people for Yoongi anymore.
As the sun started setting, the numbness consumed Hoseok even more. His heart, his mind, his body, until eventually Hoseok wasn't focusing on anything anymore. The crying had stopped, the shaking had stopped, now it was just a boy, sitting at the edge of the lake, with marks left on his face from crying. Streams of dried tears decorated his face and he saw his reflection on the water body.
"Pathetic"

"How was the 'meet up' with your dear Yoongi?" Hoseok's roommate asked Hoseok as he entered the apartment.
Hoseok let out a low chuckle.
"He didn't even show up"
