I woke up to the sound of my mother's screams.
"Go help, Amanda," she yelled. As I got out of bed I heard footsteps coming up the stairs then my bedroom door handle started rattling.
"Amanda, open the door," it was my father. I rushed to the door and tried to open it but couldn't.
"Daddy, it's stuck," I cried. I kept trying to get it open but it wouldn't budge. After about two minutes of trying we gave up. That's when I heard it. The gun shot and my father's body as it hit the floor. I screamed not knowing what else to do.
"The girl, she's in there," said a voice and then the door handle started rattling again.
"It's jammed," came another voice. "Stand back I'm going to ram it." I could hear his footsteps before he collided with the door. He did this over and over and each time the door came closer and closer to opening.
"Amanda," a voice came from behind me. I turned around slowly afraid of what I would see. To my surprise it was just a man dressed in jeans and a white shirt. I didn't say anything, I just stared at him.
"My name is Joe, those guys trying to get in are very bad. But I'm here to help you," He kneeled in front of me. "Just take me hand." I hesitated but I took his hand.
Suddenly we were surrounded by a white light and even though I knew I was out of danger, I knew it wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
