The next fortnight was uneventful. Matthew and I had spent more and more time together. Now prom had arrived...

Mum put the finishing touches to my make-up on as the doorbell rang. The time had finally come. I raced to the door and opened it to find Matthew's face smiling back at me.

"Come on, the limo's waiting." I grabbed my bag from the sideboard near the door and stepped out into the cool evening breeze.

To say the limo was quiet would be a lie. May and her date, Cameron and Matthew's friends and their dates were all chatting away as we reached the stretched white car. I could hear May's excited squeal.

"I haven't seen her for 4 weeks. I can't wait to see the dress she's been making with her sister." I internally shook my head. Mum had to take it in because I'd gone down two dress sizes,(from a 10 to a 6).

"You've not missed a lot. She spent the first two weeks in her house, then ended up in hospital over night and spent most of the last fortnight with Matt." I didn't recognise his voice.

Matthew opened the door and I was greeted with shocked faces and gasps from 10 other people. The sudden silence was broken when May squealed my name. I was nearly knocked backwards as she choked me.

"Oh my God! You look ill! Have you been starving yourself again? Love the dress by the way." That's May for you. Suddenly there was a hand on my right hip, thankfully my mind registered who it was before I managed to scream. I turned my head and was caught in Matthew's deepening gaze. One of his friends broke the silence.

"Yo, dude! where did Gabby go?" He turned his attention to me. "God girl you're, like, Gorgeous. Seriously man, where did you find her?" His date slapped him. He gave her a 'what-did-I-do' kinda look. Matthew chuckled before replying.

"Ah, just something I forgot I had but needed." He smiled down at me, "Anyway, how'd you meet my cousin." He teased. The Guy's face went bright red, "You know what Jasper, I don't think I want to know!" The limo erupted with laughter as I took my seat next to May with Matthew on my right.

The ride was 20 minutes so I had time to memorise everyone's names. There was obviously May with Cameron, Amber Jones with Jasper Lewis, Amber's brother, Tony Jones with Phoebe Craig, Tim Smith with Stacy Grey and Gray Moss with Beth Collins.

Prom was 7pm-12am so it was still light when we got there. I stepped out of the limo and was hit with an explosion of colour. There were girls in Oranges, Yellows, Greens, Blues, Pinks, Purples and Reds. It was like walking into a rainbow. Amid all the coloured dresses and black tuxes was May in her shimmering black dress and Cameron in his White tux and purple shirt. She never did like being part of the crowd, she always had to be different.

I turned to dance with Matt but instead of meeting his smiling face, I found myself looking at him shoving his tongue down Abigail Croft's throat. I stifled a sob. He must have heard me because he broke away from her. Leaving her smirking with her eye sterling blue eyes full of hatred. I began to run. Matthew tried to catch me but only managed to rip the rose off my waist.

Boys! Think they own anything they can get their hands on! I ran out of the hall, took off my heeled shoes and let the hem of my prom dress hit the floor. Lifting it slightly I began to run home with tears on the brink of escaping.

For the entirety of year 11, not one boy had taken the slightest bit of interest in me, but as soon as they see me all dressed up, they swarmed like bees.

This was meant to be my night, one that I'd never forget. Now I wanted to forget it. The rose on the waist of my dress was now lying somewhere on the floor in the hall. Some stupid know-it-all guy had probably pick it up and pocketed it like some sort of perv.

Stones cut the souls of my bare feet

"Gabby! Gabby wait!" his voice breaking my heart.

"Go away Matthew. You've ruined everything!" my voice breaking. Matthew was a popular. A guy who wouldn't be seen dead with someone like me, yet he'd asked me to be his date tonight. I'd stopped paying attention to the road ahead of me.

"Gabby stop!" The two shouted words were the last two words I consciously heard.
