Mel-Ah'D-ae steeped out of her egg slowly. This was a very different world than the one she came from, she must be careful. Her first task must be finding Mork.
Her other egg came floating down, and she quickly opened that one. Earth clothing was a necessity.
What to do....
I suppose the first logical step would be to change into the Earthling's clothing so I do not stand out.
So that's what she did. Deciding that her next logical step was to hide evidence of her arrival, she hid the egg she had arrived in in the bushes.
She took the bag of clothes and looked at the building in front of her. Earthquakes - or Orkquakes, as they were called on her home planet - were considered to be an allergic reaction to condos, so Ork had very few buildings even as large as this. Orson had told her that she would be sent to the place Mork was staying, so this must be it.
Mel-Ah'D-ae went inside and looked around. Seeing a door nearby, she knocked softly.
"Who is it?" inquired a rude voice.
She didn't answer. This couldn't be Mork, could it?
The door jerked open. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"I - I'm looking for Mork, sir."
"Mork? Go upstairs. He lives in the apartment above this one. While you're up there, tell him and Miss McConnell to keep the noise down. Now get out of my face."
The door slammed.
She swallowed. Surely not all humans were like this one? Perhaps it would be best if she went back to Ork? No, the memory of the tests was to fresh in her mind for that. Besides, she'd never willingly let Ohme'nd-ar go through that again.
Up the stairs she went.
The other door in front of her, she nevertheless hesitated before knocking. What if he and this 'Mindy' refused to let her stay? What if they were like the man downstairs? She had to try.
The door was opened immediately by a man with dark brown, curly hair and blue eyes and a young woman with light brown hair and blue-greenish eyes.
"This can't be her, Mind. Look at her clothes."
"Hello," said the woman. "Who are you?"
"I'm looking for someone," she said instead of answering.
'Alright. Who are you looking for?"
"Wait. Can I see your ring?"
"I'm not removing it. This ring is very important to me."
"You don't have to take it off. I simply want to examine the design."
Mel-Ah"D-ae hesitated, nonetheless. What if he hurt her ring? There would be no way for her to contact Orson, then if she couldn't find Mork...
"Alright."
The man took her hand carefully and examined the ring. Suddenly he dropped it and broke into a huge grin.
"Nanu-Nanu, Mel-Ah'D-ae!"
She started, then smiled a little. "Nanu, Mork."
"Wait, this is the girl Orson said was coming?"
Mel-Ah'D-ae turned to the lady. "You must be Mindy. Nanu."
She followed Mork and Mindy inside.
"Mork, how did you get it from her ring?"
"The design is the Orkan symbol for 'I was sent'."
"Well, whatever works. What is your name? I don't think Mork told me."
"It's Mel-Ah'D-ae."
"Melody... but isn't that a human name?"
"No, Mind, it's Mel-Ah'D-ae. Very big difference in meaning there."
"Well, Mork, it sounds like Melody."
"Perhaps I should use the name Melody. If it is a human name, it will draw much less attention to myself than my Orkan name."
"That's a really good idea. Oh, here. Let me take your bag."
"No thanks, Mindy. Where should I put it?"
"Follow me," said Mork dramatically.
She did so. Up the stairs led into the attic, and into a strangely furnished room, even by Orkan standards. Another room was separated by a curtain. It was into this second space that Mork led her. It wasn't furnished much yet. A chair, a table, an old mattress, and a bar hanging from the ceiling were all that sat in here.
"This is your room," said Mork. "I didn't have a lot of time to fix it up, and I didn't know if you preferred sleeping vertically or horizontally, so..."
She smiled. "It's wonderful."
