The Distance
Breathless I race to the edge of the Earth
Where land turns to water
And water rushes out to sea
With no end in sight.
This is how far I said I would go
To the end of the Earth
For you.
And when I get there
There is no turning back
Even when I discover that I am there alone.
My tears fall into the waves
Where salt water meets salt water
And there I am, thinking of all the things I should be forgetting
Instead of dropping to my knees to build castles in the sand.
Childhood is over.
The sun slips into darkened skies unnoticed and I am as far from home as I have ever been.
