School started off like any other day, with me rushing out the door and like always just barely making it into my home room before the bell rang. After going to my locker I walked back to my desk which happened to be right next to my friend Sydney.

As each hour passed I just progressed to get more and more exhausted. I was starting to wonder if I was gonna be able to walk home.

At eleven thirty three the bell for lunch finally rang. It's not like I had much of a lunch to eat anyway but a few bites of a peanut butter sandwich and a small bag of cheez it's should get me through the next four periods.

Like usual I sat with my friends. However my history teacher had other plans. Mr. Huret, my history teacher, had told me that if I didn't retake the quiz on foreign affairs I would have to work through some lunch's till I could make up the grade.

And of course I hadn't retaken the test which meant my thirty five minutes spent away from school was now being bombarded with more work. So I go back to my homeroom and prepare for another one of Mr. Huret's speeches.

Once I'm back in the classroom I see only three other people in the room, one is some random freshman who's probably just trying to get some extra credit, then there's Jake Kiszka, and finally Mr. Huret. I sit myself down in the seat closest to me and wait for Mr. Huret to pass out a worksheet.

I had never been a huge fan of Jake but he seemed ok, I guess he was just a little to mainstream for me to hangout with. I mean he was pretty popular and I was not. His brothers Josh and Sammy are nice, but Sammy's a little bit of a stoner and Josh, I actually sit next to Josh in English, he's always been cool to me.

Jake also has this bad boy look going on, I'm not really into that sort of thing. As I was finally handed a paper I began to work. Deeply focused, I had no idea that Jake had moved to the seat right next to mine.

His hand tapped my shoulder, I jumped. "Jesus" I said "What do you want?" "Do you think you can help me with this question?" Jake asked, he points to  question three and to be honest I think I got it wrong. So instead of replying with a yes or a no I just said "sure".

I looked over the question again trying to form some sort of answer that wasn't my own. In my right ear I could hear Jake humming a song, I'm pretty sure it was people are strange, which happened to be one of my favourite songs by the doors. Through the window I could see light rain make the once gray concrete a shimmery black. Mr. Huret walked out of the room, I assume he went to eat his lunch.

About a minute later, I can feel Jakes eyes on me. I turn to face him, I didn't really wanna give him the answer so I tried to be a little vague, "So basically for this problem you have to read paragraph six and the answer should be there." "Oh, thanks". I thought he would go back to his original seat after that but I guess I was wrong.

I could see Jake look at my answers, "I think you got number four wrong" he took my pencil from my hand and underlined a part of the question. "See, you put the year not the place." he was right I definitely screwed up that problem but I didn't really care.

Uncontrollably I glanced at Jake. His hand was pushing his long hair out of his face while his front teeth were biting down on his lip. Outside the rain began to pickup. Seconds later the power was out and everything was pitch black.

I heard Jake say "Is everyone good?" the freshman in the corner responded with a "yeah I guess" I just said "yeah". Through the window we could hear the loud crackling thunder outside. I guess I must have jumped because Jake said "You ok?" in a kind of whispered voice which I knew was directed towards me. To try and comfort me he put his hand on my shoulder.

As the next crack of thunder rang out, I wrapped my arms around Jake. It was awkward for a little while but his body was warm and his skin was soft against mine. I was just glad that he couldn't see my face which was what I assumed to be a bright pink.

I could feel Jakes hand reach for mine and quickly I proceeded to move my hand closer to his until we were ever so slightly in each other's grasps. I wanted this moment to last forever.

About five minutes later the lights had finally come back on. I moved out of Jakes arms and removed my hand from his. Our moment was over. Mr. Huret walked into the class and took our papers. The day continued on...
