Newtina- Newt’s insecurities
Part 1
Newt is hurt but is too afraid of what Tina may think of him after the result of many mishaps on his travels.

“Mercy Lewis, Newt!” Tina yelled as she ran towards a bloodied Newt, whose lying in pain, clutching his abdomen and groaning.
Tina squatted beside him and tried to remove his hand from the bleeding area. “Newt, tell me what happened?”
“I...was.... just.....feeding...rounds....new....addition...still..not....used to.....being..close..to..kind....humans” Newt gasped between each word as he tried to explain.
“Did it bite you?”
“No..he.....stuck...his......claws in” Newt gasped again.
“Right. We need to get you up to the apartment.” Tina takes his arms and gently lifts him to his feet. Newt clutches onto her, his legs wobbling, struggling to take his own weight and deal with the pain.
“It’s alright, Newt. Just cling on to me and I will take you up.”
Tina walks with Newt clutching onto her arm and bottom of her blouse, into his shed. She sets him down into a chair close to the ladder.
“Are you fit enough to climb the ladder by yourself or would you rather an alternative?”
“I’m...sure. I can....mange” Newt says as calmly as he can whilst gently getting up from his chair and reaches for the rungs of his ladder. He begins to step up onto the first rung and groans in pain. At this, Tina sighs and carefully guides him back to his chair.
“Alternative it is”
She uses the Wingardium Leviosa spell to take him up to her apartment. She climbs up and guides him to the couch in her living room. She then kneels beside him after retrieving the magical first aid kit her and Queenie keep to cure any illnesses or pains caused by magic.
She reaches to undo the first button of his shirt, until he moves her hand away.
“No, Tina, please don’t”
“Newt, I gotta check your injuries. You’re bleeding so much I gotta clean up the blood. And change your shirt, this one is ripped to shreds”
“Tina, please, you don’t understand. You-“ Newt takes a deep breath “You wouldn’t like it”
“Newt, I have seen far worse than an injury caused by claws. I’m an auror, I’ve seen people slashed by curses. This-“ she gestures towards his abdomen “I can handle this”
Newt turns, facing the back of the couch, when Tina tries to reach for his shirt buttons again.
“Newt please. I wanna help. I promise, I won’t hate you or anything that’s happened after this, okay?”
Newt nods and slowly turns, facing Tina. His hands drop to his sides as Tina reaches again for his shirt buttons. As she undoes each button, she discovers a patch of scars decorating his chest. When she undoes the last button and open his shirt, she sees his chest and abdomen is covered in various scars; big and small, some deep others only a cut, old and a few looked new. Not to mention his latest injury causing a deep gash slicing through some old scars from his adventures. Tina gasped at her first look of them all.
“Oh, Newt.”
Newt looked down, ashamed, he knew what was coming next. This happened whenever he was sent to the hospital, or when his mother used to take care of him after the war. “Oh, Newton, what have you gotten yourself into?”
“I’m so sorry”
Newt looks up at her, surprised. This is not the reaction he expected from her.
“I-I’m sorry? You-you have nothing to be sorry for”
“I’m sorry all this happened to you. You don’t deserve this”
“But, it’s not your fault, Tina. I was the one who chose to work with magical creatures. They just get scared from being treated so badly. They lash out, but, it’s not their fault either. It’s mine.”
Tina shakes her head, trying not to let the tears that have formed in her eyes not to fall. Newt looks up and reaches out to wipe them away.
Tina takes a deep breathe and starts dabbing at the blood around the cut. She then applies some dittany and wraps gauze around it. She helps Newt into a sitting position to wrap it around his body. He lays back down on the couch. Tina gets up and pours a glass of water and sets in on the coffee table in front of him.
“Thank you, Tina.”
“No need to thank me.”
“You saved me. Thank you”
Tina smiles sheepishly. “Your welcome”
She kneels down, sitting beside the couch.
“So.....are you alright to talk about.....” she tries gesturing at him.
Newt looks down at himself, with a confused expression on his face. Tina takes a deep breath.
“Are you okay to talk about...you know...your...” she gestures towards his abdomen.
Newt looks down at his scarred chest and abdomen and realises what she meant. He looks at her through his mess of curls and looks ashamed again, his face turning red.
Tina sees this and speaks up; “You don’t have to you know. I understand it’s a bit of a delicate subject”
“No. No, I want to. I think I should explain to someone what’s happened to me over the years. Particularly my new friends”
Tina nods, allowing him time to be ready to speak.
“Well, my work, as you know, causes me to uh..” he gestures down his body “to get hurt. You see, these creatures I’ve come across have been treated extremely badly by other wizards and when I get there to help them, they go straight to their defence instincts, which cause them to lash out and either strike me with their claws or bite. Some are not very well cured as, well, I travel alone and while I do meet some people in villages who love to meet new people, I’m not so good at conversing with others as you must already gather, and I end up having to cure my own wounds. Unless, of course I’m close enough to go home and either let my mother take care of me or go to St.Mungo’s, the main wizarding hospital in London. Not to mention, I was in the war. I worked with dragons, Ukranian Ironbellies, Easten front and because of so many other injuries from men who worked on the main front, I was treated by nurses of my wounds, from the dragons who were also treated as badly as other creatures, but not seen to as much. So, that explains all of this.” Once again, he gestures to his body. “I know it’s a lot to take in, as my friend, but I want you to understand that I’m honestly, perfectly fine.” He takes one of Tina’s hands and holds it, giving it a little squeeze to express how much he really means what he’s said. He doesn’t want Tina to constantly worry about him, not only because having people who are not relatives of his truly cares about him and his health and wellbeing, but also because he knows what it’s like to always stress about caring for others and worrying can cause a lot of problems. He doesn’t want Tina to go through all this just for him. As he’s said to his best friend in Central park all those months ago, worrying means you suffer twice.
He looks up at Tina’s face. She’s looking down at their joined hands and sighing deeply. He thinks she may be crying.
“Tina, please look at me.”
She does, looking up into his green/blue eyes. There are tear marks on her cheeks and he sees there are still some swimming in her beautiful, deep brown eyes. He lifts his other hand and wipes away the tear traces. She smiles a little and swallows the lump which has formed in her throat.
“I wish I was there with you so I could look after each wound” she whispers.
Newt smiles. “You couldn’t. During this time you were busy being the best auror of MACUSA”
Tina giggles at this and brushes a few strands of her hair behind her ear, self-consciously.
“Tina, you don’t need to worry about me. Honestly, I’m a grown man, I can take care of myself.”
“Everyone needs someone to help them from time to time, Newt. Even a grown man like you.”
“I don’t want you worrying about me, though. Worry causes a big amount of stress on people and I don’t want that to happen to you.”
“Newt, I’ve had to take care of myself and Queenie at a young age after our parents died. I can handle looking after others.”
“I know. But-“
“No, Newt, you gotta understand, when you have friends, they’re gonna worry about you no matter what. You can’t control it. They will wanna help you, so you’re gonna have to let us. Okay?”
Newt smiles wider and nods. “So, you really care about me that much?”
Tina smiles and leans forward to kiss his cheek. “Yeah, I really care about you that much”
