Isabelle parked the car a block or two away from the tower. We walked together towards the tower, and stopped at a newsstand. I picked up a Time magazine with Captain America's face on it. The magazines lately have had all of their faces plastered on the front page. They were lucky to get an interview with these people. They're an exclusive group. I still had a hard time believing that we were going to be interviewed to work for the group.
Isabelle and I walked into the tower together. The receptionist behind the counter began to ask our names, but she was waved off by two women. Isabelle and I were greeted by the two ladies who had called us in. I kept the latest issue of Time magazine under my arm as I walked with the other three, our heels being the loudest sound in the room. We went into the elevator and waited to get to the floor we were supposed to be on.
The elevator doors opened and the four of us walked out. Ms. Potts told us to sit in two chairs across from two others. She asked if we wanted anything to drink, and I asked for a water as we sat. Ms. Romanoff sat across from me and smiled. Ms. Potts came back, handing me my cup off water and sitting by Ms. Romanoff. Isabelle and I stayed silent as the two women got their papers out to start interviewing us.
"Anastasia," Ms. Romanoff started. I faced her and smiled. "Where did you work before?" She asked.
"Isabelle and I worked with the NYPD," I said.
"Were you officers?" Ms. Potts asked.
"No, we were more of investigators," Isabelle said. They nodded and wrote that down.
"What have you heard about our business?" Ms. Romanoff asked.
"Only the good things," I replied.
The interview went on with many questions, like any other interview. We were finished within the minutes and Isabelle and I were able to leave. Our job would start tonight at a charity event, so the two of us would have to be here early to help with whatever we needed to help with. We shook the ladies hands and left the tower. We walked to our car and picked the place we would eat for lunch.
The drive there was lengthy, but it was worth it. We waited to be seated. The place was already packed and it had just turned lunch hour. A redhead waitress led us to our table and took our drink order. We looked over the menu, chose a meal then set our menus down. I took my magazine out and started to flip through it. The waitress came back and we ordered our meal. She took our menus and we were left to speak.
"How do you feel about this new job?" Isabelle asked as she looked through her feed.
"It'll be," I paused for a moment, thinking of a word to describe it, "interesting." She nodded in agreement. She looked up from what she was doing and realized I was reading.
"Can I read that after you?" She asked. I nodded. I looked down and read the words in the magazine. "Who knows," Isabelle said, making me turn my attention to her. "Maybe you'll actually go on a date with Captain Rogers." I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"A man like him has to have women lined up to date him," I said.
Our food came and we kept our conversation going as we ate. Once we were finished eating, we paid and left. Isabelle dropped me off at my apartment and told me she would pick me up later. I unlocked my door and tossed my keys in the bowl by the door. I removed my heels and pulled at my skirt. I made a list of things I needed to do before I left. I decided a bath first.
After the bath, I sat on my bathroom counter, my back against the wall, and started my makeup. The curler was on and I debated on starting music. I decided on it and played some soft music. I curled my hair and finished my makeup then pulled out the dress I planned on wearing. I pulled the black and tan dress over my head and adjusted it. The slit hit my mid thigh. I grabbed a pair of heels and slipped them on. I packed a clutch then wondered where Isabelle was.
Then I heard her honk. I smiled and ran out of the apartment to her car, but not after locking it up. Isabelle smiled and drove back to where we were this morning. We hopped out of the car and I admired Isabelle's dress. She thanked me then led the way. Inside the building, the receptionist told us where we should go. We reached the floor we were supposed to be on and met Ms. Romanoff. She told me to check on each person and Isabelle to follow her.
I was given a directory to where each room would be and so I followed it. I knocked on the first door that I knew and a voice inside called me in. I opened the door and looked around the room. I called out to see if anyone was even in here.
"In here!" the man called. I followed where the voice was and found the man in the bathroom. I held on tightly to the paper and watched him struggle to tie his tie.
"Do you need any help?" I asked. He nodded and I smiled. I set the paper down and tied his tie for him.
"I'm really sorry," he told me.
"It's okay," I replied with a soft laugh. He thanked me and I left the room. I checked another room and the person yelled that he was ok and ready when we were. I nodded and walked to the next room. I proceeded to knock, but the door opened. "Hello?" I asked. Someone mumbled and I looked around. The bathroom door opened quickly and I jumped back. I placed my hand on my chest and breathed.
"I'm so sorry!" The man said. "Are you okay?" I nodded and laughed a little.
"You just scared me, it's alright," I said. I looked at him and smiled, realizing who he was. "I'm Anastasia, one of Ms. Potts and Ms. Romanoff's assistants." I held my hand out for him to shake. He gladly took my hand and shook it.
"I'm Captain Steve Rogers," he replied.
"Enchante," I said. He smiled and pulled our hands apart. I smiled and started to leave the room.
"Does that mean you are working for all of us?" He asked. I turned. "You know, Tony will ask sometime."
"Only if they ask us to," I replied.
