"Nine." Remi mumbled, kicking the freshly killed wraith corpse. He had been by himself, much like the last eight. She supposed the concept of teamwork was a foreign one to a young, arrogant wraith. Remi glanced down at her wrist where she had strapped the small screen stolen from the dead wraith, she stepped over the one lying at her feet, eyes glued to the little dots that marked life.

She was sure that by now the wraith knew she had stolen a tracking device and was hunting them down one by one, though they still didn't group together. And while taking them down one by one was easier on her, it would also take longer. She sighed deeply, rolling her shoulder, the one without the bullet inside it before taking off once again towards the next wraith.

Remi tried not to let her thoughts dwell on the explorers. On the big man with long hair and green eyes. On his scars.

Could what they said be true? Could they really free me from this life?

She took the wraith by surprise, bursting from a bush and quickly snapping its pale neck.

"Ten."

No, of course not. Once a runner always a runner, I will never escape. But... he had the scars. The scars of a runner.

Remi skidded to a halt, she had just come across three wraith, she doubted that they had been working together but rather they had all happened to be in the same area. She could tell by the way they scrambled to get to her first and kill her that it was every man for himself.  Or perhaps, wraith for itself? She quickly jumped out of the way as one tried to hit her, dodging a blast from a wraith gun in the next second.

They claimed to be able to remove the device, but with what technology? What could possibly take out such an intricately placed device without killing me?

"Eleven, Twelve... thirteen!" She cried as she threw the last wraith over her shoulder and impaled him on a log with a broken branch. Black blood spurted from its chest and flooded its mouth, overflowing and dripping onto the ground. Remi paid it no mind and started after the next wraith, she had a feeling it would be a lot tougher than the last few.

What reason would they have to lie to me? Perhaps they worship the Wraith? Though they didn't look like wraith worshipers. Their technology was unfamiliar to her, it was like nothing a wraith worshiper would have.

She was brought out of her thoughts by a sound. It was comparable to the sound Rodney's weapon made when he fired it, though this sound was louder and more repetitive. She took off towards the sound, away from the wraith she had just been after, bursting through the trees to see the explorers firing their weapons at two wraith. The onslaught of whatever the weapons fired was too much for it, Remi watched in awe as the wraith jerked with each shot from the strange weapons.

Yellow bursts of light came from the nuzzle of the gun, sending out something that even her eyes could not track. Though she knew where whatever it was had definitely found its destination. The wraith fell dead, and the explorers lowered their guns. Their eyes found her, bathed in wraith blood with a few wounds of her own.

"I have never seen such weapons. They are powerful." She said, they were about to address her she could see but then something came crashing through the trees. Her head snapped to the side to see the big man, Ronon with his weapon drawn and ready to fire. He lowered it when he took her in.

"I have given what you said much thought. I cannot understand why you would lie to me about such things. A runner, who does not run? The only thing that has ever brought an end to a runner's life is death. I do not understand." Remi huffed in frustration.

"We'll tell you everything you want to know but you have to trust us enough to come with us." Sheppard said, holding up a hand in a gesture of peace.

"You did not harm us, you potentially saved Dr. McKay's life. You warned us of the Wraith and told us the way to the gate. You have earned our gratitude and our trust, let us repay you." Teyla added, her brown eyes warm as she regarded Remi.

"How can you remove it? I've never heard of a runner who has removed their tracker? How did you remove it?" Remi asked, turning to Ronon with a pleading gaze.

"I was on a planet same as you, when I came across Sheppard and Teyla. They brought someone from their home to remove it. A doctor. Someone who had been trained to do things like that." Ronon answered, his voice deep and gravelly.

"They helped me and I've been with them ever since."

Remi looked down in thought, her eyes bright. She still had many questions she wanted to ask.

"Where would I go if it is removed? My home is... gone. I have nothing, no one." She asked, a tinge of sadness and uncertainty in her voice.

"We can figure that out later, but right now there are still wraith crawling around and I don't wanna leave any survivors. And plus, if worst comes to worst, you can stay with us." Sheppard said, stepping forward, a silent invitation to join them in his words.

"I-" Remi started, though the words did not come out.

"Please, Remillia. Let us help you." Teyla said softly. Remi looked around at them all, Ronon was regarding her almost warmly, while Teyla and Rodney were looking at her with a gentle hope, Sheppard's eyes screamed that he was trustworthy, that all of them were. She glanced at Ronon one last time before nodding.

"I will go with you. But first we must find the rest of the Wraith." She turned around, deciding not to watch the reaction they gave to her words. She mentally assaulted herself, that same snarky voice from earlier screeching in her head that she had probably made a stupid decision, that they still couldn't be trusted. She quickly shoved that voice back into the depths of her mind, deciding to take the chance and believe that they wouldn't betray her.

That they wouldn't leave her to suffer. That they would put an end to her life as a runner.

Or maybe they'll just put an end to your life. The voice whispered, before fading once again. Remi took a deep breath in before checking her weapons. She would NOT be killed by the explorers. They could be trusted, they only wanted to help her. They were not going to harm her in any way, shape or form unless she drew first blood. She was safe. Safer than she had ever truly been.

At least, she hoped so.
