Chapter 1
I sit on the couch staring at the ceiling and just take in all that has happened the last year and a half. It turns out I did in fact win the lottery, there was a lot of press over it seeing as I was the only winner that day. Some people were accusing me of cheating others called it dumb luck. I was suddenly being recognized all over the state of Indiana, luckily the news of my winnings didn’t get out nationwide, due to how bad it would make the mega millions lotto look. I was suddenly being flooded with friend requests from people I didn’t even know. Funny how you come into money and suddenly everyone wants to be your “friend”, but lucky for me I could tell the difference between the people that wanted me for me or for my money. The money hasn’t really changed me as a person though; I’m still me the only difference is that I know have millions of dollars.
I ended up paying of all my family’s debt, and when I say family I mean all of them including aunts/uncles/cousins. I felt it was the least I could do. I bought my parents a 5 bedroom house, paid for Vanessa to go to college, I even set up college funds for my two other siblings Crystal and Favian. As for me I moved to London almost right after winning, I even went back to school for photography something I’ve always wanted. I figured if I was going to school I would do it somewhere like London. You’re probably thinking why go back to school if you’re a millionaire? To be honest I asked myself the same question but then the “responsible” side of me said that money isn’t always going to be there, something could always happen.
I bought a 2 bedroom flat in Chelsea, West London that I now share with my friend Erin. I actually met her in school she was in my English class. It’s a funny story actually; you see I was running late for class one day. I decided to stop by to get some tea seeing as it was winter time in London and it was very much needed. I was trying to find a good time to sneak into class while the professor wasn’t looking. But with my luck she was talking away like there was no tomorrow.
Erin however saw me and she ended up throwing a pencil at the window and started shouting “Pigeon down! I repeat pigeon down!”
Everyone including the professor turned to the window to see what the whole fuss was about, giving me enough time to get to an empty seat.
When the professor asked “Erin where’s the pigeon?” all she said was “What pigeon?” and went on about her business.
After class I invited her out to lunch as a thank you. I ended up learning that she too was from the states, Illinois to be exact. I’m originally from Chicago so all I could think was ‘small world’. We became good friends I asked her if she wanted to be my roommate when she started having troubles in the dorms due to her ex-boyfriend. She of course said yes no questions asked. Lucky for me she is also a huge fan of One Direction, she even had tickets to see them in Chicago in July. Which I thought was bizarre because I had tickets for both shows in Chicago, seeing as I was taking my sisters Vanessa and Crystal as well as my cousin Nancy.
It was now September, which I thought was crazy it has been a crazy year. I would be done with school in December, since I took the accelerated program available. The quicker the better I hated school for as long as I could remember. Erin on the other hand thought I was crazy for hating school, seeing as she was studying to be an English teacher.
“I can’t wait for to be out of school!” I said as Erin walked into the living room, “I just don’t get it?” she said.
“Get what?” “How you can just fly by the whole college experience and in London for that matter!”
I sit up and laugh “Easy for the English teacher to say you love school.” She laughs “You do have a point there.”
“Besides I want to experience the world E!”
