As customers started flooding in glancing around the cafe, my workers smiled warmly. Their eyes filled with excitement and with the realization of so many customers their eyes slowly filled with panic.
"Don't worry guys, you all know the menu like the back of your hand. And I'm here to help if anything happens," I state eagerly. Honestly, I'm just as nervous as them. It's hard to keep the overwhelming thoughts from flooding my head with worry if this doesn't work out. But then I just remind myself who all of this is for. Not to mention that I'm an independent woman, I've made it this far alre- . Before I can finish my thoughts snapping draws my attention away. "Via, get out of those thoughts we already have 20 orders and we only just opened the doors!" Emma exclaims worried. "Oh shoot, I'm sorry guys.... Well, let's get this shit show started," I state smiling.
Today felt like it lasted forever from running around back and forth all day. We almost sold out of everything on our menu. So, that means I will be up all night baking and preparing things for tomorrow's opening. "Via, we are almost done cleaning up the tables and we can lock the doors in 20 minutes. Is there anything else you need us to help out with before we leave," Emma asks tiredly? "Yeah we don't mind staying and helping you prep for tomorrow," Brandon replies. "No thanks, you guys have done enough for today, and thank you for all of your hard work," I say back smiling. Granted the help would be nice, I don't want to overwork them. They're still kids you know? Plus it's not like I haven't pulled an all nighter before. It should be a piece of cake right? Haha... who am I kidding, this is going to be a very long night.
Just as I'm about to head up front to shut everything down I hear the door chime open. "Sorry but we are clos-," I start to say as I look up and see the most devilishly attractive looking man walk in. He's definitely tall, with black, slicked back hair, and the most dreamy dark blue eyes. I can already feel my face getting flustered by his stare, pondering if he can read my thoughts. I was so distracted I didn't notice the two men behind him. The one has bright green eyes and curly blonde hair; while the other has dull blue eyes and light brown hair. "Ahem," the stranger says as he clears his throat, "Hey, I'm Ryan." So that's this attractive mans name. Hm.. Ryan, I could get used to saying that. "H-hi, I'm Olivia, I'm sorry but we are actually just about to close," I reply nervously. "Oh-Uh I-I'm sorry but I was actually wondering if I could possibly apply to work midnights here," Ryan asked nervously? "You can sit down at any booth and I will be right with you," I reply hastily. I grab my keys and lock the front door so no more customers can come in. I wonder why anyone would want to work a midnight, those shifts are the worst; but hiring someone would ease the load off of me, especially when I have to go check up on my other businesses.
I head over to where Ryan and his friends are sitting by the fireplace and take a seat. "Okay, sorry about that, but lets get started shall we," I state. "When is the earliest you can start," I ask? "Well, I can start tonight if you need me to," Ryan replies. Hm, that wouldn't be a bad idea, especially since we just opened I would be able to show him everything he needs to know. But why would someone so handsome need a job here? I'm sure he could be a model or something. "Okay perfect," I state. I went through the rest of my interview questions and he answered them all flawlessly. "I know you said you can start tonight. But would you be willing to start now, I actually would love a hand prepping for tomorrow and I have extra uniforms in the back," I ask? "Absolutely," he replies, flashing me a rewarding smile. "Perfect! Follow me to the back and I'll give you a tour of everything," I state excitedly. As he gets up I catch a quick whiff of his cologne, it's my favorite scent: lemongrass, bergamot, and juniper. He says a quick goodbye to his friends as they head out the door making sure to shut it behind them, leaving us alone. I show him all around the cafe and introduce him to Emma and Brandon as they head out the door. I then take him to the back and hand him the extra uniform I have and he goes into the bathroom to change. As I'm waiting for him I keep hearing a faint whispering in my head. It's very persistent and just keeps repeating 'mate'. I'm not sure what that even means to be honest. Before I have anymore time to ponder that Ryan walks out still looking dashing. I can't help but stare in awe.
Now, I'm the type of person who doesn't believe in love at first sight, I mean I don't believe in true love in general. But, staring never hurt anyone right? I just hope he's a quick learner.
The night went by quickly with me and Ryan. We spent a lot of time joking around and getting to know each other more. Though we did argue about red pandas or regular pandas being better. Which resulted in flour being scattered across both of our faces. But, he did pick everything up rather quickly. And I can say that I can't wait to see him again tonight. D-did I really just think that? My brain must be on vacation somewhere. Just as I'm about to start leaving Ryan offers to walk me to my car, which I gladly accepted because it's 4 am and I'm a female. "What a gentleman," I jokingly state. "Oh yeah," Ryan asks sarcastically? Just as I'm about to reach for my door handle Ryan grabs it and opens it for me while smirking. "What a smart ass," I reply holding back my smile. " Yeah, yeah, yeah," Ryan says," drive home safely okay boss?" "Okay, okay. Have a goodnight, I'll see you later tonight," I ask? "Absolutely," Ryan says flashing me his award winning smile.
But this man is going to get my in trouble....
