5. Spying

After a couple weeks, I got used to the schedule. We had breakfast at 8:00, lunch at 12:00, dinner at 8:30. Classes were at 8:30, 10:30 and 1:30 and lasted an hour. All 1:30 classes were electives and electives may also take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30. But the adults were being secretive and every time we asked them a question, they thought it over, like if they thought they shouldn't tell us something.

In the hallways, the adults were huddling up and shooed off any student who was brave enough to eavesdrop. One Saturday afternoon, I followed a teacher to a door, but they noticed me before I could slip in. I shared my findings with my friends, who consisted of Cole and Hannah and a couple other students.

"I have some Extendable Ears," Joe, a Gryffindor, had told me after I mentioned my findings.

"We'll set it up when the room's empty," I replied.

We waited til nightfall to sneak out and went down the hall. I opened the door and we planted the ear. The products of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes were awesome in my opinion. Dangerous, but awesome. We slept until 600 hours, which is when we started listening to it in case anything was picked up by the ear. Around noon, we heard the door opening.

"They must be starting a meeting!" I said in a hushed voice.

We learnt that Voldemort was somewhere in Northern Ireland and that a lot of Death Eaters were nearing Ullapool. But aside from that, it was pure entertainment. They spent at least 75% of the time arguing. We shared the findings with our friends.

"And you know this how?" Hannah asked us, eyeing us like we were Voldemort in disguise.

"That's for us to know and you to not," I replied, knowing if I had said, "you to find out," Hannah would find out.

We kept listening over the next couple weeks. We learnt that Voldemort may be harnessing the power of a celestial being. We also found out that a lot of said being's energy was radiating from somewhere near Ullapool, though in all their arguing, they hadn't managed to connect the dots. Anyone who had was interrupted or wasn't heard. As we learnt more, we shared it with our group.

"You guys should stop. There's most likely a good reason that they aren't sharing this information-" Allie, a Ravenclaw, had started before being interrupted.

"Yeah, they think we can't handle this," retorted Max, a Slytherin.

"But Allie's right. If there is a good reason, we should stop," Hannah said.

"But what if there isn't. They may have one, but it doesn't mean it's a good one," Cole said.

"You're all right," I said, stepping in. "We'll vote Saturday at lunch. Deal?"

Everyone started nodding, with varying amounts of hesitation. "Few, hopefully there will be no arguing until Saturday," I though. Then I looked at Lori, who had Allie and Max on either side, trying to persuade her to go one way or another. "Maybe not,"
