A loud thud jolted me awake from my peaceful sleep. Looking around the pitch-black room, I saw nothing, but heard distinct scuffling outside. Curious, I hopped out of bed, grimacing when I landed on one of the squeaky floorboards. Throwing a furtive glance at Jaycee, my older twin sister, as she never failed to constantly remind me, I crept across the room and poked my head out the door. As expected, there was no one. Rolling my eyes at myself for being so delusional, I decided to go to the library, knowing myself well enough to know I wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep.

Strolling down the hallway I turned to the tiny spare room that housed our small collection of books. I put my hand on the door and turned the knob. Surprisingly, the door wouldn’t open. Frowning, I tried again, only to have the door swing open, sending me sprawling onto the floor, at the feet of two men.

“Watch where you’re going sweetheart, wouldn’t wanna broken bones now would we?” a deep, amused voice chuckled.

“Oh shut up you two. Besides, you’re both in my house if you recall,” I sniped back, groaning internally, but not from the pain.

‘Jaycee was sure to have heard that. She’s gonna kill me, again,’ I thought resignedly. She kept telling me I needed more sleep but I would always wake up early to see the sunset. Plus, me being a light sleeper did have its advantages. I turned and propped myself up on my elbows, waiting for my sister. Sure enough, a half-asleep blond hair blue eyed woman stumbled through the door and into the library, her eyes snapping into focus at the sight of me on the floor.

“What the– Kay you have all of three seconds to explain before I give you the sex talk,” she said, looking at me expectantly.

“Oh come on, sis! I just found them here, hiding in the library. They broke in… jeez!” I groaned, getting back up on my feet, muttering about men not having manners to help a lady up.

“Aye, but we aren’t gentlemen are we?” the other one snorted, raising an eyebrow at me.

Jaycee looked at me, nodded, and kicked the blond one in the balls, catching the other one off guard before hitting him squarely in the face with her fist. Within seconds both men were on the floor, groaning in pain. Swiftly, Jaycee and I tied them up, which was no easy feat, considering they were stronger than us. It took us a lot of rope and our combined body weights to finally tie them up. Once they were properly tied, we sat on the chairs opposite them.

“So… who are you and why are you breaking into our house?” I asked, crossing my legs on the armchair I was seated in.

Jaycee was the ‘muscle’ and I was the ‘mouth.’ I rarely thought about what I said before it came out, and Jay attacked on instinct if she felt that she was in danger, even though half the time she wasn’t.

“You girls are good,” the dark haired one complimented, trying to get loose from the knots.

“Two things you might wanna take note of. One, I know we’re good, and two, I asked you who you were, not for compliments,” I said dryly, my lips curling into a smirk.

“Calm down Belleza. I’m Aiden and he’s Dimitri. I’m captain of Allegro Cantabile, and he’s my first mate. Together, we’re the rulers of the seven seas of symphony,” the blond one, Aiden, said, smirking proudly.

“Well, Kay, did we just tie up the two most infamous pirates of all time?” Jay asked me gleefully, giving me a smug grin.

“Why yes dear sister, I do believe we have,” I replied, my voice airy as I winked at her, sending us both into a fit of giggles.
