As my eyes slowly fluttered open I saw my mother talking to a doctor. Severe...Operation...Cancer... Cancer??!! I shot up in my bed and felt a hand slowly push me back down. My mother had put my head back on the uncomfortable pillow.
"Maddie honey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine Mom. What happened?"
"You fainted. You've been out cold for two days."
"Two days?" I asked,concerned about my schoolwork and Sammie. My mother was an ex-alcoholic and I couldn't trust her with Sammie alone.
"How's Sammie?"
"She's good Sweetie. She hasn't been to school though."
"Mom, why did I pass out?" I asked, intrigued in how she would present the news to me.
"Honey, you have a brain tumour. You're going to need treatment."
"Mom." I said as a tear slid down my cheek and dropped on to the stiff sheet. A nurse walked into the room with a trolley of food. That's when I realised that I was on a ward. She handed me a tray of ravioli, Victoria sponge, an orange and a glass of milk. I pushed the tray away from me.
