Hydra sobbed into her pillow. It was around six AM by the look of the sun and she had barely slept at all. She was too frightened to sleep. Whenever she tried, nightmares filled with her being touched in places that she shouldn't be and evil laughter echoed in her head.
Hydra was exhausted.
Throughout the day she slept and woke up constantly. She was shaking after every dream and tears always lined her face. Hydra's mother checked on her every now and again, not having any duties or any shopping that needed to be done. She had tried to calm Hydra but she had shaken her off so now she was left alone.
A week went by and Hydra never left her bed, still shaken up and restless.
One day she finally got up and without a word, made her way into the woods again, satchel on her shoulder, knowing that there was a flask of water and a snack inside left by her mother that Hydra didn't eat or drink. She also had her empty scrolls and a quill with some ink still in the small pot. She passed her treehouse and went further. Hydra mentally noted landmarks so that when it was time to go home she could. Soon she came across a lake and she ended up sitting on the bank.
Hydra stared out to the water. It was a small lake, secluded and beautiful, with large water based trees overhanging the edges of the water. The sky was clearly visible from where Hydra was sitting so she lay on the sand and stared up to the clouds. It was calming... peaceful... for once in the past week Hydra felt mildly calm as lonely as she knew she was.
The main water source was over the other side of the village, meaning no one would come this far to get it. It was a calming thought.
She breathed in the clean air, smelling the grass and the wildflowers around her, hearing the buzz of different insects of all species. Listening to the calls of birds... their songs playing in her ears. Hydra felt herself slipping into sleep... something that she hadn't gotten properly in a while.
Time Skip
When Hydra woke, she saw the golden sky as the sun set. She picked her satchel and made her way home, smelling dinner when she walked inside.
"Hey ma!" Hydra greeted feeling refreshed from her nap.
"Where have you been!" Her mother exclaimed.
"Down to a lake... I didn't want to be cooped up anymore." Hydra explained. "My cuts have healed and my bruises are fading. You have no reason to worry."
"I'm glad that you're okay... anyway, dinner is ready so go sit by the fire whilst I go fetch some water so you can bathe."
As her mother busied herself, Hydra sat down. She felt the fire's warmth fill her up. Her mother placed a plate by her knees and Hydra ate every bite, not realising how hungry she really was. She pulled out her scroll and looked at the writing on it. It seemed that she was subconsciously writing some sort of scary story based on what had happened a week prior to this.
Hydra's eyes filled with tears as the voices filled her head and the memories flashed before her eyes. She felt scared. So unbelievably scared. She was shaking as tears ran down her face like heavy rain. Hydra's breathing was ragged. When she finally calmed down she stared up at her mother who had an extremely worried and scared look on her face. Her hand rested on Hydras shoulder as she didn't know what else to do.
"What just happened?" She asked.
"Nothing that you should be concerned about anyway." Hydra stated simply. "I'm going to bed."
Hydra picked herself and her stuff up from the floor and stepped into her room, closing the door silently behind her. Once in her room she searched for her extra satchel. Once she found it, she started neatly placing cloths. She had the black ones she used for her trips to the markets to steal things and that was about it. She had her spare ones already on, the old ones were gone. She also packed extra ink and five more quills along with some special jewellery that was given to her by her parents from her grandmother.
Her grandmother had sorted things to be gifted to her on her birthday. She had gotten her jacket, half skirt and bandana on her thirteenth.
Hydra didn't know why she packed those things, she just did and the next day they were stashed under the roots of one of the trees that held her treehouse.
Once she was sure everything was safe, she walked back to the village, heading for Christopher's house and along the way she picked up some herbs that she had promised him from her parents house.
Hydra snuck to the side of his house and tapped on the window. He must have been tending to his tree because he was next to her in a split second.
"Where have you been lassie?" Christopher asked, a deep frown shown on his face.
"Something terrible happened and I'm afraid that I can't come here as often... instead every week I'll bring a short story and some herbs for you so you can track my progress." Hydra explained.
"What happened?"
Hydra took a sharp breath in. She could trust him with her life. "I was hurt sexually. Forced to have sex when I was unconscious."
Her mentor looked taken aback at the statement and he nodded his head in understanding. "I'm sorry that ever happened to you..."
"It's fine. Now if you don't mind, I have to go..." She placed her scroll and herbs in Christopher's hand and with a polite nod she scrambled off back home, trying to ignore the glares. Obviously a rumour had gone around town and she was getting blamed yet again.
Hydra shook her head as she lay on her bed, staring at the roof. She had decided to sleep in her own bed that night.
Tomorrow is another day...
