~Zach~

Zach woke up to screaming. He wasn't used to being woke up this early, 8 am. He was staying in a small hotel room at the time and had stayed up quite late the past night. The place he stayed at was right next to many small houses with not-so-soundproof walls. His room was on the bottom floor and next to one of the loudest houses anyone could every see. Not loud as in all bright, flashy, and attention-seeking, but loud as in whoever lived there.

Often times he would hear sobs or quiet screams late at night, not usually blood curling cries at eight in the morning.

He left the hotel with a jacket slung over his shoulder in case he got cold in the chilly morning air. He walked out to the house to see who was disturbing him every day.

He hadn't even touched his fist to the door before it was swung open by a girl about his height with brown hair slightly darker than the normal brown. She wore a worn purple t shirt had some reference no normal person would understand and spandex shorts with her hair in a ponytail. She smiled weakly at him and he forced a smile.

"Who are you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My name's Zach," he held out his hand for her to shake, which she rejected, turning away and walking inside motioning for him to follow. Of course, being the idiot he was, he followed her inside while the door swung shut behind him and he heard the click of a lock. He looked back, then forward at the girl, then back again, mystified as to how the door did that.

He didn't question it.

Directly inside was a small hallway. The dark brown walls made the house look small and tight but it wasn't that big in the first place. There was about 3 doors on each side of the hallway all spread very wide apart. at the end there was a tall white archway, contrasting with the dark walls. Through the archway was a mid sized kitchen. The walls had changed to striped black, white, and red, which was an interesting choice with the brown. The tiles were pure white and in a diamond pattern. All stainless-steel appliances filled the room along with granite counters and two barstools. The colour scheme and themes throughout the house had so far been quite strange.

The girl herself came across as quite normal, nothing like the style of her house. She seemed to be tired and still half-asleep. Zach guessed she had gotten up in the past hour and was still wearing what she slept in. She sat down at a barstool and opened a book.

There was no book there before she sat down...

He looked out another entrance to see a staircase leading to another section of the house. The walls were a teel colour in the staircase room.

"Do you... may I use the washroom?" he asked, changing his question before saying it, not wanting to seem rude.

She nodded, not looking up from the book. Why would she invite him in if she was going to ignore him? "First door on the left."

Zach dipped his head and backed out of the kitchen, quickly slipping into the bathroom and shutting the door. He stared in the mirror and saw his reflection along with a towel rack. There was a glass shower and black toilet and a black sink. the walls were black tile and the floor was white tile. The towels on the rack were lime green, adding the strangeness to the room.

He closed his eyes and when he opened them he saw something flash in the mirror. It glowed blue for a split second then went away. He took a deep breath and splashed cold water in his face.

He left the bathroom and ran his fingers through his hair before going back to the kitchen and sitting next to the girl on the barstools.

She glanced up at him. He flashed her smile. "What's your name?"

She closed the book and turned her attention to him, raising her eyebrow at him once again. "Why's it matter to you?"

"I told you mine. Im in your house, locked."

"Right, Zach. I don't feel its necessary for you to know this information."

"You don't feel it's necessary?! What the- Fine then. Alright." he took a breath. "I was wondering if you were alright, with all the screaming."

She looked down and folded her hands across her lap. "So you heard it too."

"What? What is it? Was it a movie or something?"

"No, it wasn't a movie it wasn't anything. It was a person."

"Then was it you?"

"It wasn't me."

"Oh, you live with someone else."

"No, I live alone. I have since I was 15."

"What?"

"Except for them. They've followed me everywhere." She scrunched her eyebrows together. "I thought it was the house. The police came, then we moved. They were still there, I thought it was my dad - he was always acting strange - but he was mysteriously killed. Then I thought it could be my family but I was kicked out and they're still here... they tempt me. Tease me. Follow me. I- I can get rid of them. Is it me?" She took a deep breath and swallowed. "You're the answer Zach. You're the only one who can help me. If my wish came true..."

Zach's eyes widened. He jumped out of his seat as she looked at him with glowing white eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but it wasn't her voice. It was more metallic and masculine.

"I wish to find love."
