CHAPTER 1

“SKY’S THE LIMIT”

            The golden gates swung open by itself as I got closer to it. I took in all the air I could in my chest. A few moments of thought, the air I held in was thrown out through my mouth. I had just realized that my eyes were closed the entire time. I wished this wasn’t real. I wished I could turn back and run off. I wished I could just do this without me knowing it. I don’t know why, but I felt the guilt, the embarrassment—honestly, I didn’t know but I knew I felt terribly.

            Walking up in the manor of white and gold through a humongous and blindingly gold staircase, I could hear his voice. It pulled me back, and I felt like jumping down the steps to hide. I sighed once again, looking around the perimeter. This manor was quite big, and that, is just an understatement, I suppose. It was almost an unbelievably large tower for the endless stairs and width. I could simply say that one floor was as big as an entire cornfield could have been back in the days, yet my destination was easily seen.

            I pierced the archways with my eyes to see the biggest one at the end. It had a white frame with the shapes and carvings of clouds, and supposedly baby angels with little harps on their hand. I darted towards it, and when I got inside, I could only see white everywhere. It was as if this place was covered in mist. Cold struck me yet it felt wonderful, like the first winter I ever experienced. The wind inside was thicker than it was outside, and it felt a bit difficult to move around, like water, that is.

            “Yes?” I heard a low yet authoritative voice come from afar. I prevented a small smile from my lips. It felt good to hear that voice; it had a good effect on me. I immediately realized who it was, and why these things were the way they were. The air, his voice, they all created an effect on everything in the room. His authoritativeness was undoubtedly high and it was impossible for you not love nor disrespect him. All my worries were gone.

            “Peter,” I bowed my head, despite not being able to see him. “My name is Gabriel, and I would most kindly wish to speak with you.” I told him with immense politeness.

            As soon as I finished speaking, a man with long, silver locks of hair appeared in front of me out of the mist-like air. If there was one thing that would catch your attention, it was that his stature was unlike any other; he was a very tall man. He lifted my chin, and I followed with my body to rise. Little wrinkles formed at the corner of his eyes and at the corner of his smiling lips. His skin was olive, and he looked so fatherly and kind. But despite all the welcoming expression in his face, I remained stiff, as I realized I was just now. “Speak.”

            I paused a moment and looked away. “I wish to live on Earth…”

+++++

            I heard him give out a mighty laugh, his hand on his chest. Ah yes, I knew this was coming, so I should have just walked out and besides it being too late, he laid his large hand on my shoulder and spoke as a sweet and wrinkly smile of his had formed one again.

            “My boy, you cannot simply go down there!” Despite the smile, I knew that he was dead serious. “We do not belong to such place. The Lord Almighty had created two different worlds for reasons we must know of most in our life. However, Gabriel, both worlds are immensely blessed to have Him put us in our place. Do you understand what I am implying?”

            I avoided his gaze, but I was sure that Peter knew how I took it. After all, this is Peter. “I understand, sir.” I felt Peter frown as he studied me. “Well then, run along now.”
