Gregory.

Gregory always spoke as if he were already thinking ahead of himself. Herman wondered exactly how far he wanted to wager that anyone else were as willing to sacrifice as he was.

If there were a way the resistance could survive without him, he wouldn't have to test anyone else.

Gregory gambled before the war
But he never made- never had- the time anymore. He had been a big lad before the war, big shoulders, the buttons on his shirts barely fit snug around his thick neck
And he had full rowdy cheeks for such a young boy less than twenty before the war

Now he was wirey his forearms were darker and dirtier and stringier and he face had take on some shape.

"Gregory". He thought to himself aloud.

His parents had called him Gregor but before the war had it changed to sound more ambivalent.

He sat there for ten minutes and smoked
Ten minutes more
Another cigarette
Thirty minutes and three cigarettes had burned before he finally brought himself to brace the cold and find Emily in the resistance silo
