Orla's P.O.V
"Orla! Come downstairs this instance!" My mother's livid yells sounded through the floorboards. "The guests are arriving and you need to be down here to complete the family!" Tedious and repetitive, the annual family reunions are nothing more than a waste of time.
The whole Alesi family will sit around the dinner table, my aunts and uncles, my grandparents, and talk all day long about how perfect they and their children are. Mainly because they were or are Slytherins. Then there's me, the only lion of Gryffindor amongst the snakes of Slytherin. Of course, they aren't all that bad. My older brother, Nicholas, for starters, is the only one in this household who doesn't treat me with disdain and hate since I was sorted into Gryffindor. Also my younger cousin, Robin, who, albeit is a Slytherin, is actually decent.
"I'll be down in a minute mother!" I shouted back. "Let me just finish getting ready." See, we had a tradition in this family, unfortunately, we had to dress up in black tie attire. Of course, most of the family wore emerald green or silver to represent their Slytherin roots, so what did I do to rebel? Wear a scarlet red dress, that puffed out at the waist and had a red, lacy bodice, giving it the illusion it was smaller than it actually was. I decided to pair it with a pair of black and gold heeled boots. Only then did I grace my mother with my presence, and boy, was her reaction impressive.
"What is that? Take it off immediately!" She yelled, her face going a lovely red as she grew angrier. "I will not have you disgracing us even more than you already do!" She continued, her hands twitching by her side. "How much skin! Do you want everyone in this family to think that you're a hussy? Huh, do you?" My sister, Vivianne, smirked over mum's shoulder at me.
"Veronica, dear, calm down. It's just a dress, besides she doesn't have time to change, Braeden and Regina are already here." My father said, placing a calming hand on her shoulder, not that it had much effect on her.
"Get off Bastien, you would be mad too if you could see how ugly the colour is. But you can't because you are colour blind!" She screamed.
Straightening her sleek, green dress and fluffing her short, dark hair slightly, she opened the door, grinning at my aunt and uncle as if she wasn't screaming at me three seconds ago. "Regina, Bastien. How wonderful to see you again. Oh my Regina, that dress is simply stunning." She said as she engulfed them, pressing kisses to both of their cheeks. "Robin, you've grown at least an inch since I last saw you. Oh, Maxwell, as dashing as ever."
"Hi, Aunt Veronica." Robin responded, hesitantly returning my mother's embrace. Her bright, blonde hair was curled down her back and clashed with her dark green ball gown. The other half of the Alesi family moved down the line, greeting us all in turn. Aunt Regina gave me a reluctant hug before grimacing at my dress before moving into the sitting room.
"You really should have just worn a green dress, you know? Or maybe just settle for black next time. It would make your life a whole lot easier." Robin suggested with a laugh, beaming at me before I pulled her into a hug.
"I know I should, but it's just too fun and so easy to irritate her. You should have seen her face when I came down the stairs." I chuckled, recalling the exact shade of red she went.
"Come on, let's get out of here before Grandma comes and sees you. She will honestly have a heart attack." Robin said as she pulled me away from our two families. I looked back to see Maxwell, Robin's older brother, being, unfortunately, engaged in conversation with my sister. Poor Max.
For the next hour before dinner was officially served we sat in my room giggling with each other over the stupid things that happened last year at our school, Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
