6. fade away
The smell of coffee sits in the air as the blonde breathes, staring intensely at the corner of the leather seat in front of her. Her eyebrows furrows slightly every second that passed and she is sure by now that her latte was no longer warm unlike how it was several minutes ago. The sun hits her eyes slowly from the window beside her, causing her to lean back against her seat, but she eyes never leave that corner of the booth in front of her.
Lisa shakes her head. Her mind keeps repeating the scene that happened two nights ago, remembering how Chaeyoung had an outburst of emotions during dinner time. Her words kept repeating in her mind, unable to shake it out. She found herself wondering how she could have possibly lead her on unintentionally and how she could fix this situation. She was her best friend, after all. She couldn't just leave this alone. She was confused. She wondered where she could have gone wrong.
Lisa never meant for Chaeyoung to have feelings for her. She never even felt that way for Chaeyoung, she recalls. She's her closest friend and she doesn't know if she could see her any other way.
The way her eyebrows furrowed even harder hurt her head. Frustration sits in her chest as she thinks about what Chaeyoung could be doing at the moment — wondering what she could be doing at Sooyoung's place. Lisa never liked Sooyoung. She thinks it has to do with her rivalry in being Chaeyoung's best friend. The blonde can't help but think that they're both probably having the time of their lives right now; playing games or eating or whatever — all the things Lisa should be doing with her.
"Are you listening?" A voice rings in her head, snapping the blonde out of her trance.
Lisa blinks up at the small brunette, "Huh?"
"I was asking if you have to go to work tomorrow," Jennie sighs, stirring her flat white with her silver teaspoon.
"O-Oh, I, uh, I do."
"Okay," Jennie nods with a small smile as her head turns slightly to look over to the counter.
The brunette couldn't help but steal a few glances at the cute barista, watching how she gave every customer that bright smile she hoped to cause. Her hair was tied back into that pretty, loose ponytail like always under that brown visor and she wore a black long sleeved uniform this time, which caused Jennie to frown a bit because she liked seeing her toned arms.
Jennie sighs and tears her gaze away from the barista, taking a sip of her coffee, "Are you okay?"
Lisa blinks at the question, "Y-Yeah. Why?"
"You're quiet today which is kind of weird," she replies. "And you'd usually compliment me like you always do, but you've only spoken like four words."
The blonde exhales and looks down at her lap, "Sorry, I'm just tired..."
"What's on your mind?" Jennie asks her. "Something's bothering you so let's fix that."
Lisa looks up at the brunette and gives her a smile, thinking about what to say. Her mouth opens a bit to say something, but closes it after a second.
"Just spit it out," Jennie says, noticing how the blonde hesitated. "If it's bothering you so much, you might as well get it off your chest."
The blonde sighs again, "I have a best friend and we got into an argument... I fucked up, basically, and I have no idea how to fix it."
"Well, why don't you just talk to her?"
Lisa gives her a look, "You think it's that easy?"
"Of course not," Jennie replies, taking a sip of her flat white. "Mending a broken friendship is never easy. But if you're the one at fault, then you have to suck it up and be the first one to talk. Of course, it's not going to be easy, Lisa, and that's scary, but you have to make the first move."
